With the Suns win and the Laker's loss, the Suns are now a full 9 games ahead of the Lakers. Obviously the Suns could hit with a rash of injuries, but short of a complete collapse the Lakers may simply be out of it.

Using current percentages, if extrapolated over the rest of the season, the Suns (81.8%) would win 67 games and the Lakers (61.4%) would win 50.

The Suns have 38 games yet to play, so if they win just half (19 wins) they would finish out with a record of 55 wins - one above last year's record.

For the Lakers to win 55 games, they need to win 28 of their remaining 38 games, or 73%. Of their remaining games, 22 are on the road where the Lakers are currently 8-11.

Obviously nothing is impossible, but the odds are against the Lakers catching the Suns in the Pacific.

Pacific? You need to change the thread title to:

"Is It Over In the West?
The way it is going, the West won't be over until we play Dallas both remaining games and take both in addition to keep our current winning pace.

Dallas has a much easier second half then the Suns. The Suns have taken advantage of their easy first half, but the second half is gunna be the real test.

I think it works out in the Suns favor, they have built tons of chemestry / Confidence with the streaks, & now they can get ready for the playoffs with a much tuffer schedule...

I agree with George, it is unlikely the Lakers will work themselves back into contention. They are now in a death fight with San Antonio (or even Houston) for the 3rd seed in the West.

The race for the #1 overall seed is now underway at full steem. I think it will come down to 1-2 games at the end of the season.

This is a 2 horse race but the second half of the season will really show what the Suns are made of. Dallas has a EAST heavy schedule for the 2nd half of their season and we have a West heavy shedule.

Dallas is right on our heels and realistically has a better chance in the 2nd half of the season of taking back the number 1 seed. Now if the Suns are legit and we take care of business, even then Dalls will ride our heels the rest of the way.

Think about it this way. If the Suns were to play .500 ball in their remaining 38 games, that would put them at 55-27 for the season. In order for the Lakers to tie the Suns with their remaining 38 games, the Lakers would have to go 28-10. Unless there are significant injuries, the Suns aren't playing .500 ball the rest of the year.

Most likely yes. I think the only way the Lakers could get back into it would be a Steve Nash injury.

Thats OK though, the Lakers just need to get their chemistry back together if the can ever get healthy at the same time (i.e. Odom gets back, but Luke Walton goes down for a few weeks). The Lakers still have the ability to make a run in the playoffs, but the reality is that they are still probably a year away.

The Spurs are only 4.5 games behind the Suns despite the perception of struggles and the Suns going on two very long winning streaks. The Suns need to win these head-to-head battles.

was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

Last I checked on my WWII history, the Germans were about 6,000 miles away in France, on the verge of getting their butts kicked by some late arriving Americans.

But I'm sure you meant the Japanese.

LOL, as soon as I saw Mulli's post, I was going to ask what the over/under was on "number of posts before someone who doesn't get the joke issues a correction." I guess the "under" would have taken it.

jenna: abomb, what is the worst team in the nba?

abomb: well that would be hard to say. they're each outstanding in their own way.

jenna: cut the horsesh!t, son. i've got their records right here. who dropped a whole truckload of bad shots in the rockets game? who gets trampled on in overtime against the bobcats? every halloween, the kobe's trees are filled with other people's underwear. every spring, they blow it in the playoffs.

abomb: you're talking about the lakers.

jenna: of course i'm talking about the lakers, you twerp!
