One of the most interesting aspects of spring football is how some players will make adjustment to their games, and for Notre Dame star running back Jeremiyah Love, there could be another level added to his already elite game as long as he stays healthy.
The junior back was spotted on Wednesday taking reps with the wide receivers (see video below), an aspect of his game that is strong, but more than untapped. Love had 28 receptions this fall for 237-yards and two scores, up from his freshman year of 8 receptions for 77-yards and one touchdown.
With new running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider, you can look to what Penn State did this past fall with its backs catching passes. Nicholas Singleton caught 41 receptions for 375-yard and 5 touchdowns this past season, and if Love can get to that number of catches, you have to believe that his yardage total would be much higher than Singleton’s.
What’s interesting about this move, is that it would give the other Notre Dame backs more opportunities to carry the ball, and give more depth to the talented, but mostly unproven wide receiver group.
If the Irish are able to unlock another aspect of Love’s game this spring and into the fall, he will surely be one of the top players in the nation and could make a run at the Heisman Trophy.
