Is the draft terrible for is if we don't get Zion? Morant might be just as good for us.

Wasting your time man. He has now used Canaan and Melton as good comparisons for Morant and that should tell you all you need to know about his agenda against Morant.

I prefer to call it agenda in favor of the Suns. Until Morant can demonstrate he can do anything against even remotely decent competition, I will continue to project him as a bust, especially if gifted the starting point guard position as a rookie.

He can score unlike Melton and is a far superior play maker and passer

After considerable research I would have to say that Melton is a sound comparison. They each start with the letter "m" and end with the letter "n" and they both have a "t" inside their last name, as long as you misspell at least one of the names. It's a much smarter comparison than Morant and Isaac whose names are not very similar at all. Although I've heard they each have a blue shirt they like to wear when not playing ball so there is that.

If we can’t get Zion, I think the Suns are better off trading the pick to New Orleans for Jrue Holliday who is an All Star caliber player.

Rather than waiting another 4 years for a rookie to develop, we could actually go into next season with playoff aspirations with an excellent 2 way player like Holliday, and then rest of core Ayton, Booker, Bridges, hopefully Oubre and the Suns can perhaps sign a PF in free agency as well.

It would probably take something like Jackson, Johnson and the Suns number 1 protected pick. If need be, the offer could be bumped up including the Bucks pick.

Substitute Warren for Jackson, and make the pick Top 3 protected instead of Top 1, and I absolutely do that deal.

The reason I picked Jackson is because his contract fit and there is perceived value. It could be the Pelicans are not interested in Warren's larger contract for three years.

So. Did I miss something. Where and when did someone say that the Pelicans are planning on trading Jrue?

I think people are expecting it based on the owner saying she wants a complete overhaul. He’ll be 29 next year with two years left on his deal so he’s not really the guy you build your franchise around.

Yeah. And maybe we should consider that.

Yeah. And maybe we should consider that.

We wouldn't be building around him. We are building around Booker, Ayton, Bridges and ideally Jackson. Holiday (or Walker) would be an ideal compliment and facilitator for those three or four.

Just saw an NBA comparison for Ja. KJ. When you think about it, its pretty close.

Athleticism. very similar, Ja is a little longer and lankier
Distribution skills--Ja is better than KJ was in college but about what KJ was in the NBA
Shooting--both could make outside shots when necessary but it was not their bread and butte
Driving--both excellent at getting to the rim and drawing fouls
Defense--KJ was an underrated defender. He could defend well when really tried. Ja is similar.

KJ had far better court vision, much better shot selection, and much more discipline passing, and didn't unnecessarily force things as much on offense...all against far better competition.

KJ averaged 20 ppg 12 ast 1.7 stls, 4 rbs his third year. I guess we could live with that...

Yep this is his chance to shine against better opponents let's see how he does!

IF Morant can lead his team to a single victory against high major competition in the Tournament, I will change my tune about him, though I will still think it would be a major mistake to hand him the starting job as a rookie.

In the meantime, 3 assists and 7 turnovers tonight is a major red flag, in my opinion.

I'm not ready to proclaim Ja at KJ's level as a passer just yet... KJ averaged 9.1 assists a game for his career, his 4 year peak early in his career was some of the best all-around point guard play in league history.

Not really, considering that his team will probably be a 12 seed or lower. They won't just be up against high major competition, they will likely be facing a team with multiple future pros and maybe even a future NBA player or two. Under those conditions, I wouldn't expect a win from Morant even if he IS the second coming of KJ.

I want to see how he plays against good competition but it won't be about winning IMO.

It's not to me either but the competition is what 1sun has been using this whole time as a reason why he doesn't like him so if he can get one win which is possible as probably like a 10 seed then he'll switch sides

He needs to hit or exceed his scoring average. Assists could be difficult since his teammates will also be over matched. If he can score and keep his turnovers to a minimum it will be a good sign.

Well...Auburn just beat the #3 team in the nation, and Morant put up 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists in that game. Murray State only lost by 5.

He just put up 36 against Belmont, which has a slim chance at an at-large tourney bid.

The only other major conference team he went against is Alabama, and he scored 38 in that one.

He was in a completely different role as a freshman, but did just fine against West Virginia in the tournament.

I'll agree that he is unproven against top talent, but just because of a lack of opportunity. He has looked good-to-great against the top competition he has faced.

The lottery odds have changed this year, we all know. But another change that actually is a big factor is that the lottery is now for the top four picks rather than the top three as before. This means that the team with the worst record can drop to the fifth pick, and the Suns as they stand now could drop to the sixth pick. In fact the odds favor dropping to the sixth pick more than any other individual pick (20%).

Players that score in college typically score in the NBA if they have the athleticism. I do not worry about the small school factor. Many of the best guards in the nba (Curry, Lillard, McCollum, others) were small school players.

Passing and ball distribution is a translatable skill. In fact most point guards get more assists eventually in the NBA than in college.

Three point shooting is a knock on Morant, and it is a big one.
