Is the draft terrible for is if we don't get Zion? Morant might be just as good for us.

Well...Auburn just beat the #3 team in the nation, and Morant put up 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists in that game. Murray State only lost by 5.

He just put up 36 against Belmont, which has a slim chance at an at-large tourney bid.

The only other major conference team he went against is Alabama, and he scored 38 in that one.

He was in a completely different role as a freshman, but did just fine against West Virginia in the tournament.

I'll agree that he is unproven against top talent, but just because of a lack of opportunity. He has looked good-to-great against the top competition he has faced.

Scoring and assisting is nice but if you can't lead your team to a win against a much more talented team, clearly you're just another Canaan.

He needs to hit or exceed his scoring average. Assists could be difficult since his teammates will also be over matched. If he can score and keep his turnovers to a minimum it will be a good sign.

Seriously, that's a horrible way to judge a player. James Harden, in his lone trip to the Dance played in 2 games. He shot 70.6 from the free throw line, .167 from the field and .125 from the 3 point line. He played 34 minutes in one game, 40 in the other and only averaged 9.5 points in those contests. Like Morant, he was basically a one man team and a decent coach can often embarrass the star of a one man team in the tourney.

The lottery odds have changed this year, we all know. But another change that actually is a big factor is that the lottery is now for the top four picks rather than the top three as before. This means that the team with the worst record can drop to the fifth pick, and the Suns as they stand now could drop to the sixth pick. In fact the odds favor dropping to the sixth pick more than any other individual pick (20%).

Running the simulator #5 is a common landing spot for the Suns.

The worst three teams all have a 14% chance of getting the top pick.

Another thing to look at, is how much talent does Morant have around him. If he does not have enough talent around him he can only elevate his team so much. I meant to watch Morant yesterday but I couldn't find the time. Maybe I can catch him in the NCAA tournament.

This should give him a bit of a boost plus they are in the NCAA Tournament. His play there might help or lower his value.
I think it can help it, I don't think it will lower it any. Well, if he goes second, it really can't help it either. I guess it would solidify a team's confidence in him. Ja has passed every test put in front of him so far. He scores, he distributes, he leads, his team wins, he rises when facing tougher challenges.

Bring on the next. It will be interesting to see how he does.

I'm with you. I haven't watched Morant live so I'm hoping I get a chance to see him in the Tournament.

He's viewed as a top 3 prospect right now. His value won't change based on the tournament because he's not overtaking Zion. I'm not sure if he could put on the best tournament performance in NCAA history that leads his team to the national championship game but even if he somehow did do that, Zion will still go #1.

Morant is not going to surpass Zion as the top pick for sure. When I talked about boost, he would solidify his position as the second pick in the draft.

In case you haven't noticed, Auburn isn't even ranked.

He hasn't led his team to a win over ANY remotely decent team, EVER...

You know who else didn’t do that in his college career?

Devin Booker.

Uh, Kentucky had a number of wins over high major competition that year (not to mention a Final Four appearance and a historic run of perfection until losing to Wisconsin in the national semifinals), and Booker also wasn't a point guard...

After considerable research I would have to say that Melton is a sound comparison. They each start with the letter "m" and end with the letter "n" and they both have a "t" inside their last name, as long as you misspell at least one of the names. It's a much smarter comparison than Morant and Isaac whose names are not very similar at all. Although I've heard they each have a blue shirt they like to wear when not playing ball so there is that.
All this time I thought it was Morant, but apparently it's actually Moratn, huh. ;)

So? Do you have to be a point guard to LEAD your team to a win over another team? Any team?
No, but a Point Guard can make the rest of the team better more than other positions can, unless one of the other positions is a superstar.

Or, to put it another way, a good Point Guard can affect his team's offense more than a good player at PF or Wing. Do you agree?

Just like a quarterback.

I may miss the game but fans will get an opportunity to see Morant play today at 1:20 p.m. Arizona time per azcentral:

NCAA Tournament: Marquette (5) vs. Murray State (12), 1:20 p.m., TBS

It would be great to get some feedback.
