They just kidnapped the soccer coach of Cruz Azul, one of the biggest soccer teams in Mexico, and he is basically one of there own. We better have some kick azz security. I for one will not be going. I will be using my money to fly to a different game, one where I won't need Creasy. Why chance someone of some group harming our team or the 49ers or the fans? I thought this was a good idea, but whenI read about crap like this I start to think the NFL should just pull out.

Soccer coach's kidnappers remain silent

MEXICO CITY -- Argentine relatives of one of Mexican soccer's top coaches who was kidnapped this week are becoming increasingly desperate, as prosecutors said today that his captors had still not made any demands.

Heavily armed abductors grabbed Ruben Omar Romano, Argentine-born coach of first division Cruz Azul, by blocking a road and pulling him out of his car Tuesday after a training session in a southern suburb of Mexico City.

"We have received no information that a ransom demand has been made," Mexico City's chief prosecutor Bernardo Batiz told reporters.

He said a ransom note demanding $470,000 found beside an old human jaw bone at a church in the capital turned out to be a practical joke in bad taste.

Witnesses told police the kidnappers fired warning shots and hit Romano's car but there was no blood at the abduction scene and police believe he was not badly injured.

Mexico ranks second in the world for kidnappings after war-hit Colombia, where many abductions are political, not purely criminal.

Relatives of kidnap victims in Mexico often do not tell police they are conducting ransom negotiations and even hire specialized private firms to talk to the kidnappers.

But Romano's father, Jose, said there had been no contact with the abductors, who police have described as a well-organized gang.

"There was no communication so far. We are here waiting for news and it is more exasperating every day," he told Radio Mitre in Argentina. "We are all desperate," he said.

Romano, 47, took Cruz Azul to the final stages of the league championships this year after several poor seasons.

His kidnapping was the second heavy blow to Cruz Azul this month. Mexico's soccer federation banned two international defenders, Salvador Carmona and Aaron Galindo, from soccer for a year on July 4 after they were expelled from the Confederations Cup in Germany for doping offenses.

Don't forget the possibility of terrorist attacks or the fact that the lovely people south of the border chanted "Osama! Osama!" when our soccer team played there.

Oh. I get it. Now the chanting of "Osama! Osama!" makes perfect sense.

Yeah, it's not like it's going to be in Bagdad or Mosul. Americans go there everyday and don't die. Hell, they even have "Starbucks", how savage can it be?

NASCAR and the LPGA had events there this year. No one got kidnapped, no American was murdered, no one chanted "Osama".

NASCAR race

Sure, something bad could happen. But, something bad could happen if they were playing in LA too.

I don't agree with it - it makes sense in a national pride/envy of the USA way - but it was/is in poor taste.
If it's American team vs American team I don't forsee any "osama" chants.
Hopefully the "Niners suck!" chants will be louder than "Cardinals suck!" chants.

Well, LA does have the 2nd largest population of Mexican citizens in North America.

It's why the NFL is playing games in Mexico City. They're trying to increase the fan base in LA so they can get an NFL team back in there.
