On September 7, 2006, with no prior announcment, KDKB discontinued broadcasting in their current rock format stating a format change effective on September 15 at 9:33 AM MST. Although they remain on the air, the radio station's broadcast has been reduced to playing only classic rock albums in their entirety and running commercials with no on-air personalities.

The temporary site has a message in Spanish, pasted below, which suggests the possibility of the station turning to a Spanish-language format;

WE THANK YOU FOR 35 YEARS…
TUNE IN 93-3 FRIDAY MORNING SEPTEMBER 15TH AT 9:33 A.M…
WE’LL ANNOUNCE OUR NEW FORMAT…
LE AGRADECEMOS POR 35 AÑOS...
TEMPLE POR LA MAÑANA DE SEPTIEMBRE EL 15 DE 93-3 VIERNES EN 9:33 MAÑANA... ANUNCIAREMOS NUESTRO NUEVO FORMATO...

First Tim and Mark retire and now this

I've heard a couple of rumors about this, one is that they are changing to a hispanic radio station and the other is that it is a stunt and they are only tweaking their format. It was pretty weird, last Wednesday everything was fine and then all of a sudden Thursday morning all of the on-air guys have completely vanished. Either KDKB or another station better pick up Nights With Alice Cooper, which is by far the best radio show there is.

What's the big deal?? KDKB is just a mix of KUPD and KSLX. Sandusky is going to be getting into the big fat money hog known as the Spanish market.

I was just gonna ask if KUPD was still around. I prefered KUPD over KDKB during the 80's.
KUPD is just about the only station worth listening to. You are missing the best morning show in the Valley. I think they even overtook Beth & Bill.

We used to joke that AZ was the "All Zeppelin, all the time" state. That held true when I was in town this weekend. You can almost always tune in some Zep at any given moment in the Valley.

Seems to me there's a lot of classic rock stations in town. Is that not the case?

All three of Sandusky's stations play a lot of Zeppelin. KSLX has an entire hour, on Sundays called getting the "LED out."

KSLX is the only true classic rock station. But almost every station out here seems to play whatever they want except the Urban Stations.

Isn't the new KTARSports going to be on FM? That would be great because most portable media players don't include AM tuners.

I don't really care what he's like in real life...he's so damn funny--no better way to start your day than laughing your ass off. Can't back up what crap? I've never heard him talk tough...

Nope. It's a very good thing.

I just thought there was more than one classic rock station in PHX.

Pretty soon the only radio you're gonna find is-

-Spanish
-New country (Which is ass cheese- like we really need more songs about cheating on your spouse with your cousin or how great your new pickup truck is!))
-Rap/hip-hop (Which is more poppy than Britney Spears nowdays. )
-Alternative (Which means dudes dressed like *******/AFI emo watered down rock. I can handle most alternative rock, but emo? NO F***ING WAY JOSE!!)- MAYBE
-Top 40/pop (Pure, unadulterated SUCKAGE!!!!)
-Talk radio (Just what we need- more OxyViagraRush Slimeball!)
-News/sports
-Christian/gospel (As if we can't get enough hate-filled rantings from televangelists.)

Of course it's pretty bad when the big corporate chains control everything and all stations, like anything else that big corps have their hands on, are basically carbon copies of each other.

I agree- IPOD's, and internet/satellite radio are the way of the future for anyone who wants real quality in what they hear and not some cookie-cutter crap that some music/radio industry bigwigs figured would appeal to the widest audience because it's been dumbed down to the lowest common denominator.

KDKB was cutting edge in its day and basically pioneered album oriented rock. They were the only radio station in the country outside of New Jersey to play Springsteen before he hit it big.

As a kid growing up in Scottsdale, you either listened to the Cowsills or the Archies on KRUX or KRIZ, or Pink Floyd on KDKB.

KDKB is small and locally owned.

Sucks about KDKB. :(

I noticed the last 12-18 months they started playing way more "Classic Rock" than before. Before they always had a nice mix of classic and todays rock, but as of recent times they were more in the mode of 100.7 KSLX. They must of been trying something a little different as a last ditch effort to save their ratings or whatever.
