I finally got in touch with my buddy with AP, whom I trust implicitly. He's heard everything I've heard, mostly that the Suns have had some kind of contact with every team from picks 1 through 12. They've gotten at least as far as talking specifics with four teams.

This is what he said the consensus is on the Suns from other GMs and ops personnel:
The Suns start by asking for the sun, and by the end of the discussion they think they're going to get the moon, too.

Lots of teams at least a little put out by all the activity the Suns are stirring without what they think is reasonable discussion. And every time the Suns start up something new, it causes a ripple in the pond for everyone else.

Milwaukee is PO'd right now because they are in love with Yi Jianlin but Fegan won't even let them see a workout, yet Phoenix got in without a pick in hand. They thought Phoenix asking for the No. 6, Simmons and another player (Gads?) was a joke for Marion straight up. They feel Phoenix is all bluster and no real muscle.

I guess you can look at this two ways. One one hand you can have faith the Suns are not going to give the team away. No more DJ for Robey trades. On the other hand, phone calls from the Suns to other NBA teams might take on less priority.

Whhhhaaaaaaaaaaaa. Our teams plays in a small market, shrinking rust belt city that no one cares about. We haven't been relevant to basketball since Lew Alcinder, whhhhhaaaaaaa. Stars want to play in a fun system that gets lots of media coverage, surprise.

EDIT: Yi is doing them a favor, I feel like he's going to be a bust anyway

Who cares? If Milwaukee wants to cry about the Suns being proactive, let them. A lottery team has no room to complain about a top tier team taking necessary steps to improve themselves.

I just hope that now they got the real feel of what Marion could fetch him, just do the damn deal to trade him away and worry about other issues later!

I'm glad to see the Suns aren't desperate, they have no reason to be. MIL can stay content as the All-Star-less, 28th best team in the league. Seriously, morons.

I would be much more worried about the former than the latter.

The good news for the Suns is, if Robert Sarver allows them to stand pat, they're in great shape.

Now, with the Milwaukee idea specifically, I'm not sure what they were expecting to give up there to match Marion's salary. Bobby Simmons is their worst contract right now, and Gadzuric is probably their second-worst contract (either him or Michael Redd). If the conversation is Marion for #6, then yes, those pieces are pretty obviously the ones coming back.

Im not surprised the Bucks have decided to take their anger, for getting obliterated, out on us.

Im also not surprised we still get the occasional Spur troll.

We are an amazingly popular team, even when arent saying anything to the media they talk about us. When we arent winning the story is still about us. If KG comes we *will* be at the equal level as former laker, celtic, and chicago teams once were.

The bucks should conserve their complaining until then.

In their eyes, Marion was worth the players, not the pick as well.

No doubt, but other reports on the trade had the Suns asking for as much as three players and the pick. So who knows.

I doubt that Marion is worth a pick and more than one good player. That contract makes his value less.

What then about the Memphis proposal, Marion for Miller, Swift and #4? That's much better than the Bucks one.

I'm under the impression that one's dead. Everything seems to be pointing to the deal with Charlotte, hinging on the right player (or players) being available at No. 8. Furthermore, it looks like Charlotte is probably the only team trading out of the Top 10 right now.

IMO if the Suns end up doing nothing they will look foolish.

Probably better to look foolish than to be foolish.

At least, I think the Suns are comfortable with that at this point.

looking at the total stats that you get from marion it is easy to see that he is one of the top 20 players in the nba and he still doesnt get plays ran for him. anyone that doesnt think that he is worth more then a 6th pick in the lottery and a couple role players is off their rockers.

Exactly. The run and gun suns (this generation of them), was started by Marion. It was his hops and his dunks that had us going wow before amare. With both them 2 we created our fun system. Our fun system was the catapulted another notch when a person who could use those talents, Nash was signed.

Trading one of them away has the potential to stop that, or take it down to the previous notch, unless you get a great player in return that can compensate for that. KG would be improvement in many areas, but he's also no shawn marion and the things he does.

Those quick 2nd shots, the quick dunks, etc is what we'll lose. We'll lose one of the top defenders in THE nba LIKE WE KNOW, but NBA and media hasn't really focused in on it.

And like scotsman said he does what he does without any plays ran for him.

Kinda explains why he doesn't do as well in the playoffs. More specific plays are run for other people since every possession is more important. Thus he gets less opportunities as controlling the play when it reaches helter skelter time is what marion is good at. Ofc he hasn't been a worldbeater in the playoffs with his limited opportunities, but the dropoff wouldn't be as bad numberwise. But thats also the problem as every playoff game slows down which plays to marion weaknesses.

Marion is worth every bit of what we ask, and I still feel we'll notice what we lost regardless of who we get, so I really want to make sure we get enough for him.

what does Marion do that KG doesn't? Big dunks? Nope, KG's got those and he actually does it in traffic. Steals? No, KG gets those as well. Blocks? Nope. Scoring? Nope. Second Shots? Yeah, pretty sure the best rebounder in the league does that better. How about assists? Nope. And you say we'll lose "one of the top defenders in the NBA... like we (biased Suns) KNOW? As opposed to KG who EVERYONE agrees is one of the best defenders in the league?

We lose NOTHING in a Marion for KG deal. He's an upgrade in every single way possible EXCEPT getting out on the break, which ends up being completely minimized during the playoffs anyway.

WE aren't stopping a KG for Marion trade. I am all for it and would be excited by it. But I will not be upset if it doesn't happen, either. It seems like people feel that in order for justice to be done, we should all hate Marion and physically force him out of town. Why? We don't even get a say in the decision. If it came down to drafting good players versus KG/Marion, I would choose the draft, I think. But I am crazy.

The 2nd chance points. Lots of times he gets points no one else (or very few) would get because either they'd have to regroup or post up, marion already has it in the basket and halfway down the floor. Those sort of quick hoops is what I'm talking about. The real hustle plays, the ability to guard 3 or 4 positions which I'm sure KG can't do as effective.

We ARE biased. But I know two types of defense. 1 being able to man up on somebody or switch with somebody and man it up. And 2 being able to play good defense based on hustle and quickness..i.e. saving a tipped ball from another sun before going out of bounds, getting back after the score to stop a fastbreak, being able to take two good jumping swats at 2 shots in 2 seconds. We lose stuff like that.

KG is great at #1, and decent at #2
Marion is good at #1, and an absolute terror at #2

You see him do it against smaller, same size, and bigger players. Which also counts for something in my book

I didn't say KG wouldn't be a good defender, but it'll alter what areas of defense we are good at. We get better in one area, get worse in another. Just bringing that up. When you sum it up, will we lose or gain from it? Hard to tell. You'd have to think we'd gain, but how much, is ofc unknown, and is it that much to risk it? Probably, but still I think you now understand where I'm coming from.

Again we may be biased, but I haven't seen anyone play like Marion in certain respects in a long time, if ever in the league. Although my basketball watching only goes back to the mid-late 80's.

And I'm not saying that KG would be bad, it might really help against people like duncan, but I'm also saying, anything short of KG and we'll be very very sorry for it, i.e. Memphis trade.

i take it you never watched Dennis Rodman, because that's EXACTLY the kind of D he played, except he was EXCEPTIONAL in every aspect on that end of the court.

and I pretty much disagree with everything else you said, but there's no point debating it - we can just say difference of opinion and move on.

Rodman wouldn't have had to give up eight feet of room to Tony Parker. And he could actually shoot from 16 feet (although he almost never did).

ofc I watched him, and that he was. But there were certain aspects to his d that even he didn't have that Marion does. But if you mean defense on all aspects of it, I completely agree that rodman grades out better, but he is not better in EVERY single aspect of defense.

Rodman hustled, ofc, but marion when he hustles covers more floor area in less time, and creates situations Rodman never would not have got to. Now if Rodman is there, or can reach there, then yes I agree that Marion is owned by Rodman.

But like you said I guess we could agree to disagree :)

Been awhile since you responded to my posts lol

Also Rodman played with better rules for defense. Maybe I'm wrong on it, but when marion does get a foul, it's usually a foul that wouldn't have been called 10-20 years ago.

boy, do I think you're wrong here. The only thing I think Marion was better at than Rodman was weakside blocks and steals but that's about it. overall, there is simply no comparison between the two IMO. Rodman could LITERALLY defend everyone 1 through 5. Marion only does so because DA is dumb enough to make him.
