Is there a reason we couldn't get Branden Albert if we wanted to?

If we could get him for a future pick now that draft is done, why wouldn't we or couldn't we? It seems logical to me to grab him, move Levi to OG to see how he works out while our 2nd OG we drafted his ready to take over for him. With what Albert costs us, we could save by releasing Levi once we are ready to insert a better OG. Or even keep Levi at OG if he works out well, and then move one of our two drafted OGs to center.

I just think Albert gives us lots of alternatives to fix our OL completely this year, rather than waiting another year to make it better.

So, is there a reason we couldn't get Branden Albert if we wanted to?

My guess is that if we were interested he is priced out above what we are wanting to pay him . I don't think there was a strong interest. I'm happy with Brown, Massie and Potter myself.

The vets we've signed have been pretty short-term contracts, established linemen like Albert are too expensive for our boat, we can't give up an early draft pick for someone who isn't longterm IMO. I say pass on Albert, even if the trade cost goes down, we'd still have to pay the man and I don't see him taking a cut.

Exactly. I don't see Keim giving up picks very often. He knows how to use them too well. I would expect him to be more like the Patriots, where they always seem to have extra picks.

I could see paying him 4-5 per year, but nowhere near the 9 he's gonna make this year.

I think his price tag isn't the main issue. It's the price tag along with the injury concern. I thought I heard that he hasn't played a full season in 5 years. There's no questioning that he'd be a help, but with the price tag, draft pick compensation, and injury history, I don't see the Cards pursuing him very strongly.

In terms of draft picks - no.

The issue is that the Chiefs have franchised him, but he's nowhere near the money that they have to pay him. Nobody wants to pay that kind of money, and he has no incentive to sign a new long-term contract with another team, because he's garanteed around $9M if he stays put.

The Cardinals are currently doing everything they can to get overrated, high priced, big contracted, offensive linemen off this roster.

Why on earth would we bring one in ?

The reason he won't be brought in, is because it makes no sense to do it THIS YEAR. The offensive line is more than 1 player away from being ...... well from being an offensive line.

Same reason Miami and 29 other NFL franchises have passed on him so far. The combination of draft pick and financial compensation is too expensive. Couple that with concerns about his health and it's a risk not worth taking, at least not this offseason.

I don't think he'll take less than 8M a year but that's the only way we can afford. You'd have to release Levi right away so we're clear in 2014 with room for a PP extension... Would KC accept a 3rd rounder now, THAT is the question.

While I see the logic of the majority of this thread that Albert would cost a lot in terms of $$$ and a draft pick I see things differently. Levi is making $6M a year, coming of a huge injury causing him to miss all last season and he was not a real good LT before the injury. Now Albert is a far superior LT than Levi, only 28 years old, PB caliber player. Is there an OF in next years draft that will be as good as Albert is now that will fall to ARZ's pick? The Top3 OT's went before #7 and ARZ should be better so they will probably be further down in the draft. Next years best OT are Jake Matthews who will probably go Top 5 and Taylor Lewan who I think Albert is better than.

Bottom line, ARZ will most likely have to take an OT early next year so why not trade a 2 or 3 in next years draft and offer Albert $9M a year. ARZ could use rest of mini camp and preseason to see if Brown will cut the mustard and if he doesn't bring in Albert who will helpthis season not the year after. Carson Palmer ain't a young guy so he will need a lot of protection or he ends up taking a shellacking this year and doesn't make it to the year after.
