There were reports that within a week of being fired that Tice would hire Mac as his DC.Since the Cards knocked them out of the playoffs has Tice changed his mind? That goal line stand in the 1st quarter probably sealed Mac's fate.

I doubt it. I bet that Mac is kind of at the bottom of most teams' wish lists for defensive staffs. It's also possible that Mac has a deal with the Panthers' head coach, and is waiting until they're out of the playoffs before making any decisions.

Tice is going to have a hard time getting anyone good in the lame duck year of his contract, and he probably doesn't really want to make waves with Red McCombs until at least the Packers are out of the playoffs. It'll happen. There are a ton of teams still that need Head Coaches. Maybe Mac is looking for a DC post on one of those. You never really know. He'll be fine.

If he was such a great coach, why couldn't he just get another HC position somewhere else?

If you listen to the media he was just a good coach on a bad team.

I was wondering that myself.

In November when I was dealing with those "what is wrong with the Cards this year" questions from fans of other teams that seem to rejoice in asking me absurd things because I am a Cardinal fan. I would respond with "We need a coaching change", to which I would be treated to what a great guy Mac was etc.

I would have to explain that I too thought Mac was a great guy but if they thought that being a great guy was the best qualification for HC that I would trade them straight up for whoever was HC of "their" team. Put that way, I got no takers….but the goofs did back off for awhile.

Coach Mac has had many interested parties since his dismissal. I am sure that he is going to choose carefully.

He is a god back there. I think Mac and Doug Plank should open up a steak house in Chicago. It is crazy!

It could have something to do with his 17-40 record as a head coach.

not sure mac will get a dc gig this offseason....there are not that many openings - and some teams that had new coaches retained a chunk of their old assistants (the cardinals did the right thing and sent everyone packing - they green wants a cardinals coach - they are all still available).
