Dobbs was pretty damn good today and I would be happy to keep him as our backup at this point in time. If he continues on this trajectory, I'll be happy with the trade.
I think the trade is already showing to be a good one. If he keeps it up, I'd resign him and keep him here long term as the backup.

I think he's a pretty good dude as well.

Dobbs is the best backup we've had since Warner.

Before that, it's the Chandler/Buerlein or Buerlein/Schroder/McMahon or Esiason/Graham eras.

About the only team looking up at us QB-wise is the Bears.

A possible way the trade went down. In late August the 'brass' got word from the doctors that Kyler will have to start the season on the PUP list. And realizing that Colt was done and that Clayton wasn't ready, they knew that a trade was necessary. And while I am very impressed with Dobbs, I am even more impressed with our FO, who targeted him. I was always willing to give him a chance, but have to admit that if I had to pick a guy to trade for, that Josh Dobbs would have been way down on the list. Congrats to Monti and his staff.

You're probably right....don't forget, though, they targeted Dobbs in FA and he chose Cleveland. They knew who they wanted when they traded for him. Giving up the 5th will probably end up being no big deal, but it would have been nicer if Dobbs had picked AZ from jump in the Spring.

Dobbs is making himself some money. It looks like he'll get paid as a quality backup QB, as he should.
I mentioned before I think he's basically Brian Hoyer level, which is a good thing....and Hoyer has made $34 million in his career as a backup and spot starter.

My biggest fear, if you can call it that...is if Dobbs get 2-3 more quality starts/wins, another team may call him and offer a decent (Geno Smith) contract to come in and start/compete to start.

I was certain this comment wasn't going to age well.

Have you changed your mind a little?
Ha - I was happy to see Dobbs get his first NFL win! Let's be real - Dobbs has been fine the last couple of starts, but it's our D that is making things happen.

You obviously can't prove whether or not Blough could do the same thing, so I'm not sure what you're getting at here.

Come to think of it, Geno Smith is a good comp. for Dobbs. His play and physical ability kind of reminds me of Smith...good size, nice arm, and surprisingly fast and strong as a runner. Maybe a poor man's Geno Smith or even Geno Smith himself.

I think Geno is better. Geno has a really nice deep ball which we saw a lot of last year. The biggest weakness for Dobbs has been his accuracy over 15 yards.

But Geno has been around a lot longer. Dobbs has done really well given the situation he was dropped into. Huge step up every week.

HA! Blough has never played as well as Dobbs is playing right now. Never.

Keep in mind Dobbs was traded for the difference of a late 5th rounder for an early 7th rounder. So in reality, it was a trade of about 70 picks down the list (from 170ish to about 240ish). We still kept a draft pick in addition to Dobbs. Given that and based on the last 2 games, It seems worth it.

Chris, even on this board, and we asked the question, Blough or Dobbs I'm pretty sure of the answer. Coaches probably were asked that same question and they went with Dobbs. And I post this knowing that a good part of this board are sure they know more than our coaches. :)

Again - take out the Cowboys performance, and tell me there is a difference. I acknowlege he has a nice game yesterday! One game doesn't make him a much better option.

And people were still questioning after last week whether or not it was a good move. The jury is still out, and again people refuse to acknowledge that it's been mostly the D.

No - some question trading for an asset similar to what you have, but nuance is hard!

DC's have seen the tape and will now scheme against him knowing he can't throw the deep ball accurately

I’m not seeing. Plus, Dobbs has A+ character and Smith is a crybaby douche.

My LAST post on this subject. I'll point out that Dobbs has been with this team for ONE MONTH.

Great. Let's just ignore the fact that he's been on 3 teams in 4 years, got his first win EVER and was expendable for the Browns.

If you expect anything other than Josh Dobbs, ok backup moving forward, you're going to be disappointed. He is what he is at this point.

Who cares? In my book it was worth a fifth round pick to beat that cow puke behind. What old timer cards fan wouldn't trade a fifth round pick to beat the pukes every year we play them. I know I would.
