Is Upton regressing before our eyes?

He looks clueless at the plate.

He might look clueless but he just had the bat of the night. Down 0-2 in the count with two outs he worked the count to 3-2 and then got hit in the back. CoJack came up and hit a 3-run homer to put the Diamondbacks up 6-4. Hopefully the bullpen holds the Cardinals in the 9th.

Unfortunately, many "fans" look at the Quentin example and believe that Upton's regression is not of his own making, but that the franchise itself is destroying the kid...

Ya know, if this were a situation where the kid went from hitting .330 down to .260, I might be willing to give that some credence. But geez... Upton hs yet to get his first hit this season. He is totally lost at the plate. MLB hitters don't do this. If you can't hit above the Mendoza line, it ain't the team... period...
With Upton, it's so tough as the kid is truly an amazing talent. But he simply can't hit... Send him back down and give him a shot at regaining his confidence and his awareness at the plate. If not, we might have already seen the best this kid will ever produce... :(

I'll try not to harp on this as much as I did last year, but beyond the issues with Upton, I want to once again go on record and state that as long as Chris Young is our starting CF, this team is seriously stymied... ;)

Justin's arm kept people from scoring from second twice in the 9th. Hopefully he and Byrnes can build off of this.... well not Byrnes because I hate him

I have a lot more patience with Justin because of his arm and the fact that he is young and still learning.

Byrnes, no excuse for all the pop-ups.

Haven't been able to see any Justin Upton ABs but apparently he's contorted his swing in such a way that he looks more Julio Franco than he ever has before. Most think this is screwing up his timing so bad that he can't even hit fastballs right now.

If this is true, the question is, do we have coaches aware enough to get him back to his original swing. Those of you who can see the games more often can look for the more dramatic bat wrapping around his head stance.

Grace talks about it a lot.

Yes, Upton has regressed. But he started it toward the end of last year and his slide continues.

:? I thought he got injured in the second half of last year but his performance post ASB was MUCH better than his pre ASB performance was.

7-5 after 5 innings. Upton's AB was a very good one. Maybe there is hope. Chris Young is looking better too.

I am extremely curious how bench coach Kirk Gibson and third base coach Chip Hale (who are not in the passive, mediocre mold of Bob Melvin, Rick Schu and Bryan Price) sit by and watch this poor leadership ruin our young players.

Do they try to influence the un-dynamic trio to provide strong leadership . . . or have they given up and are just waiting for D'backs brass to come to their senses?

Upton has really turned it on the past few games. His homerun against RJ into the upper deck and his line drive home run today was pure power. I've never seen a line drive shot like that before in all my years of watching baseball

Of course his home run was huge today but what I liked is that he walked twice.

It's ironic that his BA was the same as Chris Young's a couple of days ago -- .221 or something like that.

Gracie said today that the Hitting Coach is doing all he can. It's up to the players.

He's giving the company line. I have to believe that Mark Grace knows better than that.

If he's doing all he can to turn the young hitters into solid Major Leaguers, then the results say that all he can isn't good enough.

Justin Upton is hitting around .300 with 3 homers, 4 doubles, 11 rbis in 43 at-bats while batting anywhere except in front of the pitcher this year.

He currently has a 9 game hitting streak and has a hit in 14 of his last 16 games. His batting average is all the way up to .269 now.

Dback Jon needs to start more threads, talk about good karma. How about "Webb's probably out for the season". "There is no way Conor Jackson ever hits a home run again". "Stephen Drew kinda sucks"

My personal favorite, "Matt Williams is the best broadcaster in D'backs history, hands down"
