The 2025 MLB season is one week in, but Opening Day at Comerica Park is finally here.
The Detroit Tigers return home to start a 3-game series with the Chicago White Sox on Friday, kicking off a beloved tradition that draws fans across Michigan and beyond.
From game details and celebrations to tickets and parking, here’s what to know before heading downtown to support the Tigers and mark Comerica Park’s 25th anniversary season.
The Detroit Tigers' Opening Day, their home opener, is Friday, April 4. They face the Chicago White Sox at 1:10 p.m. at Comerica Park.
The Opening Day game marks the start of a six-game homestand for the Tigers, featuring three-game series against the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees.
For opening weekend, Comerica Park gates will open at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and at noon on Sunday.
A limited number of Opening Day tickets in Detroit are still available for purchase on MLB's website. However, plenty of tickets can also be found on resale platforms such as SeatGeek, Ticketmaster, StubHub and Vivid Seats.
Tickets for the opening weekend and other 2025 home games are also available at Tigers.com/Tickets and resale sites.
All tickets at Comerica Park are digital. Fans should download them from the MLB Ballpark app to their digital wallet before arriving to ensure smooth entry, according to a news release from Ilitch Sports + Entertainment.
Bags, purses, and clutches are not allowed, but wallets up to 4 in by 6 in by 1.5 in are permitted into the ballpark. More information is available on the Tigers' website.
The Tigers and Ilitch Sports + Entertainment announced that Grammy Award winner and five-time Tony Award nominee Brian d’Arcy James, a Saginaw native, will perform the national anthem on Opening Day.
A flyover will follow James' performance, showcasing an A-10 Thunderbolt II “Warthog” aircraft from the 107th Fighter Squadron, part of the 127th Wing at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.
Comedian and actor Keegan-Michael Key, who was born in Southfield and grew up in Detroit, will throw the ceremonial first pitch April 4. He is widely known as one-half of the duo behind the classic sketch series "Key & Peele."
Fans will also hear the iconic "Play Ball!" call from a special guest who has not been announced.
Parking: Several parking options are available throughout the area on a first-come, first-served basis, including street parking, garages and lots — so arriving early is recommended.

The Park Detroit app also allows drivers to pay for parking in garages and lots in advance, the city said in a release. More information can be found on parkdetroit.us.
If the hunt is not for you, parking spots around Comerica Park can be reserved at ParkWhiz.com, the Tigers' parking partner. Prices range from $25 to $100 or more, depending on location.
If you park further away, the City of Detroit offers transportation to Comerica Park via the QLINE, bus or taxi; more information can be found here. The People Mover is also an available option.

According to the city, street closures around the ballpark will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., including Adams from Witherell to Brush, Montcalm from Brush to Woodward and Brush from Beacon to Montcalm.
Witherell from Adams to the Fisher Freeway Service Drive will close at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
According to MDOT, no major road closures are expected to affect travel to and from downtown Detroit during Opening Day and the weekend unless there is an emergency.
However, eastbound I-96 and M-14 are reduced to one lane due to a two-year project, which could slow traffic for some drivers from Ann Arbor heading to downtown Detroit, said MDOT spokesperson Diane Cross. Those concerned can take I-94 as an alternate route.
"We are aware of the games, and so we tried very hard to not have any work going on that would affect downtown for Opening Day and the first couple games," Cross said. "We're very cognizant of that."
The Tigers announced their 26-man Opening Day roster for 2025 last week.
At Opening Day, the team will introduce players, coaches and staff individually before the game begins. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 12:35 p.m. for the introductions.
Inside Comerica Park, fans can enjoy live music, snap photos at designated spots and take part in a 50/50 raffle. Giant Opening Day logos at each entry gate will also be available for fans to sign.
Ticketed fans can enjoy the Miller Lite Home Run Happy Hour on Comerica Landing from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Opening Day. During this hour, select concession items will be available for $5, including 16-ounce beers, fountain drinks, hard seltzers and snacks.

Before heading into the ballpark Friday and over the weekend, fans can enjoy free pregame block parties on Witherell Street hosted by the Tigers and Ilitch Sports + Entertainment and presented by Miller Lite. The parties kick off at 9 a.m. Friday, 10:30 a.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. Sunday.
Friday’s party runs until the game ends, allowing fans without tickets to watch for free on a large screen among other fans. Saturday and Sunday parties close at first pitch.

- Metered parking:
- Pay for up to four hours via the Park Detroit app or kiosks.
- Extend parking through the app and receive mobile alerts.
- Parking lots:
- Park only in lots with clearly posted rates.
- Avoid parking in vacant lots or paying unauthorized individuals for parking.

What's new at Comerica Park
- The scoreboard: The Tigers made a big change to the giant scoreboard in left field, removing the script "Tigers" logo in favor of the Comerica Park logo. The team said the Tigers sign had reached the end of its mechanical life, but fans have had mixed reactions to the change.
- The keyhole is gone: Comerica Park was the last MLB ballpark to have the keyhole path between the pitcher's mound and home plate. No more. The keyhole has been filled in with grass based on feedback from "uniformed personnel" — the players and coaches — to make that area uniform with all other parks, according to team officials.
- Luxury seats: The Tigers are introducing new premium seats for the 2025 season, including an exclusive Home Plate Club. The upgraded seating behind home plate is complete in time for Opening Day, but the full Home Plate Club experience won't be ready until the summer.
