It looks like there's no Manning; time to move on and back Kolb/Skelton.

The Cards are not going to get Manning it appears and I'm really anxious to see what Kolb can do with this team with a full offseason to learn the playbook, gel with his teammates and get healthy. If he can stay healthy and can feel comfortable enough with the Oline and the playbook I think he will correct a lot of mistakes from last year. Last year was a poor barometer of Kolb's skills. Even if it doesn't work out with Kolb and he can't do it we saw some really good things from Skelton last year. Either way the Cards will be competitive this season.

I don't know why everyone is in such a hurry to call it dead. We've been seeing posts like this since Tuesday.

It's 5 more hours; let's just wait it out.

PFT says Manning called Miami yesterday and said it was out of the running. PFT says AZ will be the next to go and that it is between the Broncos and the Titans.

if we got a No from his camp, why doesn't our FO just say so and put this to rest.

PFT knows nothing.

The Miami call was reported by the miami beat writer, not PFT.

In the grand tradition of last season's Cardinals (who pulled a boatload of unbelievable OT wins out of their butts in the second half of the season) I'm not ready to mail it in until we receive official word of some kind.

So far it hasn't come down.

Ergo we're still in it.

We will keep Kolb for this year (2012) but drop him in 2013 if Skelton ends up the starter.

A good enough argument could be made to cut bait, save $8M off the cap this year and improve the team othewise, Manning or no.

IF the FO is concerned about his concussions (I sure am) and confident in Skelton, paying out $8M in salary and roster bonus in addition to the $8M owed for signing bonus is the definition of mishandling a sunk-cost situation.

Yeah Kevin! Welcome back buddy! I always liked you anyway! Hope you understand our flirtation with Peyton. It was a once-in-a-lifetime indiscretion. You were always our guy!

Any chance I can convince you that this Manning chase was all in your head as the result of your latest concussion?

:mulli:>>>And he's out again.

Hey Johnny Boy! You've always been our true #1! I mean, you led out team to a .500 record with no offseason to prepare! Love your upside, son! Between you and me, I never liked that Kolb guy... Hold on, I'm getting a call.

Hey Mr. Condon! What's that? Peyton hasn't eliminated us yet?

As awesome as it sounds to have Manning playing for the Cardinals we just don't have the cap space to bring him in. Manning is going to command $18-20million per year. Where would that money come from?

We could play with the Cap and defer a ton of money, but that would mortgage our future and limit the ability to re-sign core young guys like PP and DWash.

I'm in the camp of moving forward with Kolb and Skelton and giving them another year in the system to see what they can do.

Not quite right there. Fitz has a 15.25M Roster bonus due and if we spread that out over thr remaining years of his contract we would save 13M for 2012 and the 8M getting back from Kolb. thats 21M right their.

The Cards have no future to mortgage. They are best positioned to win over the next 2-4 years. All they need is a stellar QB.

Dockett will be 35 and Wilson 37 in 2016. Fitz will be in his 13th season. They have too many players who could turn into stars from the 2010 and 2011 drafts to be able to afford to keep them all. Arizona needs to go all in, now.

At the expense of defering it.

Cutting Kolb would only save us $6M this year ($2M of his signing bonus has to count this year) but the he would still be on the hook next year for that $6M remaining signing bonus.

Spreading Fitz's money over the remaining years means his cap hit goes up even more next year and beyond.

I'm sure that a Manning contract will be backloaded to help fit him in. That means that he will be a huge cap hit in 2013 and 2014.

Plus lets not forget that we need about $5M for Rookies this year.

Yes it can be done but at what expense?

MCD, I know noone on here likes to give RG any credit, but he has been pretty good at managing the CAP situation. Most years, everything is put into the current year rather than pushing it forward. That allows great flexibility when the CAP tightens up as it does for all teams. With the CAP expanding another $30 or $0 million in the next year or two, the Cards will be willing to push some of this money forward because they can do so and still not wind up in CAP hell. Watch how this developes.
