THIS ONE IS FOR YOU KOC. TIM WE DID IT.
And we lost. Get over it. Good God. Everyone jumping ship and pointing fingers should just chill the funk out. This isnt the Cards of old getting blown out by 40 points. We lost a close game. An away game, **** happens. I hate to lose as much as the next guy but seriously chill the funk out. I saw alot of promise in this game than I have seen in years.

I'm with you man. Seriously. I tallied the "things I'm pissed about" and the "things I'm happy about" and was shocked to see I'm more happy than pissed, despite the loss.

But god, what a sterotypical Cardinals loss it was!

I am almost positive that the first time we reach the Super Bowl (in the next five years, mind you) we will lose it in such a fashion that it will become an instant classic. It will be something like we have the lead, pin the bad guys on the one yard line with 10 seconds left up by 6 and stick the running back in the endzone for the sure safety but he shovels the ball to the QB who runs 100 yards for the game winning TD. Two years later we win the Super Bowl, but the only play that is shown for years is the ridiculously Cardinalesque breakdown play...even when the team is lauded.

I'd love to see (after we win it all of course) a nicely cut DVD of all the heartbreaking Cardinal losses through the years. It will be a six DVD set.

I don't think anyone is jumping ship (except for that Charger fan) just your typical fallout from a tough loss. We'll all be back.

I'm not sure it's appropriate, but

Its not a matter of losing a close game. It is a matter of how we lost. Wins dont come easy in the NFL, especially for the Cardinals. This was one that was in the bag and we gave it back.

I can't accept "it was a close game and we lost. Get over it." To be able to just sweep this game under the carpet shows that defeatus mentality.

I'm coming out of the funk already. Heard some stuff on the radio about 9/11 today on the way into work, they replayed some audio and stuff like that. It really puts things into perspective that its just a stupid game. Tillman was right. I really can't get down too much after really thinking about it. I realized how stupid I was to be so angry about this.

Hey 0%Cardsfan why don't you funk off. We do not have to react to a loss the way YOU want us to. It was a tough loss, I have only seen one or two people talk about jumping ship. Its a loss and it sucks because it was so in our hands.

Yeah, seriously. As soon as this board realizes that this team still stinks, we can move on. Who really expected a season better than 6-10?

I still do. Our defense played very well yesterday. 150 Yards rushing talks about are O-line even after Johnson went down. Matt can and will play better. Special teams didn't blow the game. I hate prevent defeses as I think that lost the game, but Whiz will see the film and unlike other coaches in the past he will react and get it right. First game, jury is still out, all is not lost.

:stupid: I didn't think that we were going to win many early this season anyways. Hopeful, yes. Loyal and supportive, yes. Expectant, no. Just get better every game and be one of the last teams that anyone wants to play by the end of the season.

I'd rather drop the first one and recover, than win and fall apart.

Maybe now they will be forced to address all the problems that cost the win rather than take the attitude that "we won anyway so it's not as important to practice fundamentals".

This game boiled down to one play.. If Eric Green just falls on the ball, game over.. I hate it when its just one play we can point to.. Or maybe Im happy about it? I dunno.. In years past it was a whole bunch of crap football plays that made us lose.. Aaagghh, I just hate this old familiar feeling of losing..

Wins dammit! WE NEED WINS!

This game boiled down to one play..

I dont think it did. It was an abundance of plays that lead to having to make that one final play. For example 10 Penalties really hurt this team and threw them into a funk with no way of getting a real rhythm.

We are going to be lucky to even get to 6-10 if we continue to have 10 penalties a game. If that gets fixed which I am not sure if it is a quick fix since we had 10 penalties in 3 preseason games and it still isnt fixed. Havent seen improvement in that department yet over 5 weeks so I am not sure how fast that can be fixed. But if that one thing gets fixed I think our O will click a lot better then it did and we are on the way to 8-8 minimum.

As of right now I see 3 main issues that could hold us back -

1. Penalties - This is the opposite of smart Steeler football. Just no excuses for any of them.
2. Finishing games (its a mental thing, an attitude that I dont see in this whole team yet)
3. Special Teams - no it didnt lose a game for us but the niners average starting position after a kickoff return was the 32 yard line while our average starting position after a kickoff was the 18 yard line. That isnt going to help you win football games, and really does no favors to the O or the D.

All of those items are fixable and can be fixed fast as most of it is mental and slight attitude adjustment. We shall see. I think a big whip crack from Wiz could be in order for this short week.

And with all that said, at the very end, if Eric Green would have just fell on the ball, the 9ers wouldnt have gotten another chance at the end of the game... So, it all boiled down to that one play...

I Actually Feel Better After Losing Than I Did Going Into the Game

It's ironic. Before the game, I was afraid that the media hype about the Niners was all true and that the problems we had running the ball and covering receivers in preseason would carry over into the regular season.

For this reason, I felt this game represented a base-line measuring stick for determining who we were relative to other teams in our division.

First of all, running the ball is quickly becoming a non-issue. Second, our CB's were not torched by SF receivers. Thirdly, our safeties and LB's didn't get nut-ground defensively by the twin-threats of Gore and V Davis.

As it turned out, SF (though a much improved team) is not superhuman. (We lost to them by 3 points in the final 0:22 at their house).

We should continue to improve as the season progresses under the wing of Coach Whisenhunt. (I agree with the concern about the penalties. Also our reverting to bad habits at crunch time - allowing the QB to escape contain up the middle and allowing Battle to get outside our (absence of) contain on his TD run. But if Whiz and his staff are any good, we should be able to clean those up. To me, how well our coaches do as teachers, fixers and motivators will be the key to our season).

Seattle didn't look that good. StL (who lost Pace) has problems.

And we get another shot at SF - only next time at our house) plus 14 other games.

Based on what I saw over the weekend (with all the teams in our division facing live bullets), I think we're right in the thick of things competing for the NFC West title.

Funny thing, after our loss to SF, I actually feel better.

If you want to get technical sure. But its a situation that shouldnt have been. Dockett doesnt do his dumb 15 yard penalty and the niners dont score a field goal. Matt doesnt throw the INT niners dont score a TD. We dont do 10 Penalties forcing us to go 3 out of 12 on 3rd down on O we take more clock and maybe more scores. It isnt just one item that goes into that boiling pot its a multitude of items. It boils down to a lot of things, not just one play.

I just dont think any football game boils down to one play. There are 60 Minutes in a football game.

The Cards did NOT play a prevent defense, they rushed 4, they rushed 6--they blitzed from the outside, they zone blitzed, they never dropped back and only rushed 3. They did play a nickel defense but the offense dictated that by adding addt'l WRs.

Everyone assumes it was a prevent defense, it wasn't even close. It was poor coverage and for some reason the lack of ability to get to the QB even when we rushed 6 5 OL picked them up. It was frustrating.
