Am i skeptical? You bet i am. I've been a die-hard Suns fan since my first attented game at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in '81.(I was 12) We've got a great team here but this is how i see things shaping out.
The Suns will once again strike fear into their opponents enroute to 55 wins & then (once again) D Antonis system & Sarver/Kerr's putridly dissapointing off-season will come to fruition once the real season begins as we will hear Al McCoy repeat himself over & over game after game........."...and he(opponent) drives right down the lane & gets the layup." And...."...another offensive rebound for (opponent)."
And don't forget..."Marion throws up a three!....Nnnnno good."
Also....." .....& Stoudamire has just picked up his 4th personal foul! We're still still early in the 3rd qtr!"
And lastly......."....Tim, the SUNS are still in this ball game if they can just get some stops!"
I'm a die-hard & i'll watch everygame i can with the belief that the Suns can get it done but folks, i'm here to tell ya to enjoy the regular season cause D Antonis run,shoot,run,shoot approach will NEVER win us that elusive title. As far as personell decisions go...too many "nice guys" on this team. To win a title you've gotta have 3 ingredients..... talent, luck, & a little nasty.
One outta three isn't gonna get it done.
GO GET RON ARTEST & WE WONT NEED ANY LUCK

Thats the question that i wish Kerr would ask. However, the F.O. wouldn't bring in a guy like Artest IMO. He's just not nice enough.

No & No. I didn't say that that the F.O. hasn't explored various trade options.
If you read it, i stated that the SUNS wouldn't bring in a guy like Artest due to his "character." Which is an opinion based on the history of this franchise & what type of people/players they've brought in here via trade,draft,& free agency. Ala high character guys who can score & pass. The one exception that comes to mind was Charles Barkley...& i don't think i need to go into the enormously positive impact that he brought to the table in terms of going from a pretender to a contender...despite his m.o. for being a troublemaking a$$hole.

By this logic, only one team (whichever one wins the championship) is worth watching, and everyone else is wasting their time. For that matter, only one game -- the one that clinches the championship -- is worth watching, and only for fans of the team that wins it.

Life is about the journey, not the destination. If you enter the season with a reasonable chance to win -- and Suns do -- that's all you can ask for, in my opinion.

Right, but you have to remember that it is a totally new ownership group now.

It is. Do you believe that this has changed with the new ownership? I don't. see Grant Hill signing. (which was a very good signing IMO)
My point is again that i'd be surprised to learn that Sarver/Kerr would even consider bringing in an Artest. If thats the case, then we're being sold short because IMO trying to build a championship team requires taking some risks & not neccessarily sticking to your "blueprint" of assembling a team of high character guys that'll pick you up off the floor right after knocking you down.

Ron Artest is not another 6'7" power forward. He can defend the perimeter and the interior, he can score inside & out but he won't cry about not getting shots,he can get rebounds on both ends of the floor , he's a willing passer , he can run, & most importantly he's tough.
No, i don't suggest we fire D Antoni. If the SUNS have another early exit or don't make it to the Finals that will work itself out next year.

Please give me concrete examples of how "the system" doesn't work in the playoffs. People who say that are extremely ignorant about basketball, and are just using something they don't understand because its easy to blame. Its like early civilizations thinking weather was caused by magic or gods.

The Suns had every shot to be NBA champions last year if the Amare/Diaw on the court situation didn't happen. The year before they didn't have Amare. Three years ago they had no bench and one of their starters went down. Its been bad breaks and a lack of quality depth that have hurt the Suns, not "the system." D'Antoni will play you if you're good, and this year, we've got 8 good players for sure, and perhaps a few other guys who can be surprises.

The real argument is whether the walk it up, "let them play" style (when fewer fouls are called) is the path to the championship. In a sense this misses a key point Bill Walton brought up - the winning team needs to be able to score.

The Suns are already changing the way the NBA is approaching the draft. Five years ago, physical bigs were the rage. Now the focus is on athletes who can shoot. (Odom was quite mobile for a guy his size). Teams like the Rockets and the Heat really struggle with the Suns pace and many teams have had to change their lineups to deal with the Suns.

But the grand illusion is that the game slows down in the playoffs, so speed doesn't matter. But in 2004-05 playoffs, the Suns averaged 112.0 ppg. In 2005-06 playoffs, the Suns average 107.2 ppg. In 2006-07 the Suns averaged 104.1 ppg (just over 100.1 ppg against the Spurs despite Barbosa being injured).

This was 10 ppg more than the Spurs gave up per game during the regular season. During the regular season the Spurs held opponents to 44.3% while the Sun shot 47.4%. During the regular season the Spurs held opponents to 33.4% for three, but the Suns shot 41.6%.

The bottom line is that great offense can always score no matter how good the defense. A champion has to play good defense, but the is coming to an end when teams can hope to win with just two or three offensive threats and a bunch of defensive specialists.
