It's great to know the Cards are 4-4, until you realize...

We all know this isn't the best football team. We won't go to the Superbowl. That's your typical 0.500 team with just enough talent to eke out some wins, but lacking in all 3 phases to be a contender. Maybe, just maybe, our special teams improve, defense tightens up and we keep pounding AD to glory. As long as we hang in the playoff race, anything is possible! Being in that race until the very end would be satisfying imo, considering how bad this season went right from the start. I'd rather see us going 8-8 fighting for a wildcard until the final game, than establishing a loser mentality aka tanking. 4-4 is not bad, no matter our opponents. If we can improve a bit in all 3 phases, we may very well hang in there!

Yes Palmer played but the offense also had 4 guys who have little business being in the league in Wetzel, Watford, Williams and Jim Dray much less starting games for them.

But I can see where you compare those guys talent level/playing ability to Humphries, Boone, AP, and Gresham.

Also, regardless of current record, the two strongest teams the Cards have left on their schedule are Seattle and the Rams. It's the NFL and any home game is winnable.

Watford is still starting. Do you mean Boone, who couldn't make the Final 53 for the Vikings? Gresham who has started all but 1 game? What are you even talking about?

We are a bad team. We aren't the worst team. We have zero chance to win a game even if we lucked into the playoffs. We are in the worst place to be as a franchise.

The only players making plays on the field outside of Chandler Jones and Patrick Peterson are over 30...our young players aren't consistently making plays other than in a random and purely complementary roles. The only hope for this not to be a lost year is if DJ Humphries can stay healthy and be a league average LT.

I highly doubt 6-7 wins means the entire gang returns. Rather, it would likely mean that changes will be made to coordinators and position coaches. A complete demolition wouldn't occur unless BA retires and the ensuing HC brings his own coaches with him.

BA has said over and over that he is NOT getting rid of any coaches.... so let the complete demolition begin.

We're currently out of the top 10.

Yeah, but our schedule is brutal the rest of the way. Football Outsiders will update their DVOA rankings and odds tomorrow, but last week we had the 7th-hardest schedule in the NFL, and that was before we played a team with zero wins.

I expect that we'll be top 3 or 4 going forward.

Tell that to Cleveland, the Giants, the 9ers and the Bucs. The only 4 teams you can, with any reasonable expectation, claim we are better than.

Wait. I thought I read elsewhere on here that we had one of the easiest schedules?

Well if dvoa and football outsiders says it, it must be true.
Btw, Boone was released for salary reasons. But that's neither here nor there. It's all about dvoa and FO grades.

We had the 19th-most difficult schedule up to now. Now it's hard.

This is a dumb argument. Go ahead and show me a metric that suggests that our future schedule, which features one team with a losing record and one other with .500 record is somehow easier than the last 8 games, where we played a team with 0 wins twice and a team with 3 wins (two of which came against teams who haven't won yet).

I agree with those of you saying we are in a dark place right now. This is S.O.C.
win just enough to not be able to secure your future, lose just enough that nobody ever takes you seriously.
at this point in history I fully advocate for this team to do whatever it takes to get their QBOF,...even if it means trading next years first as well... if we end up at 10,..offer this years first and third along with next years first and third...

on a side note, if they somehow manage to make the playoffs...PLAYOFFS???!!... then BA needs to win another coach of the year award...hell,...dude should also buy a Powerball ticket.

I dunno... right now our offense consists of a backup QB and a 30 year old RB.... cant really see us winning two more games.

Impossible. There are 2 ofer teams and the Giants are 1-7 and are absolutely horrible. Then you have some 2 win teams. We might be a top 10 draft pick but not top 5.

I think he meant top 3 or 4 in strength of schedule

I could see us being around 5 or 6

niners
browns
giants
Bucs

then there are a few like the chargers or the bears or colts who could end up here but will likely win another game or two...
the thing is...it is a possibility that none of these top 4 teams will draft a QB....I think the giants will though as eli only has a few years left I think.... but if he thinks he has five years they may not. If the browns like the development they see in kizer then they are out of the QB market this year... if they are at 2 they would be the most likely trade partner... offer them mostly next years picks so they have future draft capital in case they decide to get a QB next year
I think even if we dont win another game...six is probably the highest draft pick we can get this year

I smile, reading this thread, remembering the days when many of us would've been ecstatic to be 4-4. My, how we have fallen.
yeah...as Cards fans we have gotten uppity,..with all this "expecting the team to contend" and all that crap.. back in the SDS days 4-4 meant the season wasnt over yet and we could still swill kool aid for a little bit longer
I think many of us just dont want to go back to those days

I don't need metrics to tell me that I like the CP led Cards chances at home against a Blake Bortles led offense. Or that they have a great chance against a Tom Savage led offense. And could win any home game on the schedule. Of course, I was basing my 10 win argument on Palmer behind center. I said 6-8 is the more likely total now.

The same Carson Palmer who was 25th in passer rating and barely outdueled Jacoby Brissett and Brian Hoyer?

It wouldn't be the Bortles led offense that would worry me, however the Jags defense which probably would give the Cardinals maybe two FGs chances with Dawson missing one of them and no red zone visits.
