Ok they got a nationally televised game I'll grant you. But they werent just a new stadium. they were an expansion team with a new stadium and didnt have a long history of nothing but losing at the time.

I see your point....the Cards stadium has gotten a lot of play in the media, more than usual. It was the only American structure on the top 10 worldwide sports venues.

But, if we hadn't signed James, no way we get a national night game. We still might not, although I'd guess we get at least one with so many more opportunities.

You would think they would find a way to get the new stadium on a night game in the first week, but oh well...

They way I see it, the NFL owes us Cards fans around 15 straight seasons with an opening day game at home to make up for the BS of 1 out of 18 in the years previous to the new stadium...

If we open on the road again, I am going to rage!!!

I think with Warner, James, Boldin, Fitzgerald, and a new stadium, I think they get one Sunday/Monday night. Probably a Monday night, which is now secondary to Sunday Night Football. We'll find out around April 15th.

Just to play the Devils Advocate here, what have the Cards done to deserve a Monday night game? They had all those dudes (except for Edge) last year and the only game televised was in Mexico. The NFL doesn't care about the Card players like we do, just ratings and the only way the Cards are gonna get ratings is to win. The rest of the country won't care much about the Cards unless they win either. No one (outside of us) are watching the Cards for the stadium. All my relatives and friends back east don't even know we have a new stadium...some don't even know we have an NFL team!! lol
Like I said before, maybe the Cowpuke game gets National TV cuz it's the stupid Cowboys, not the Cards or their stadium BUT they can 'show off' the stadium AND get ratings with the Pukes...

I can answer.

The Cards have done nothing to earn a national TV spot. Othe rthan build a stadium. I dont think that rates like many people on this board do. We need to win and win consistently. Thats all that matters to the networks.

Then why are the Texans seemingly on national TV 3, 4 or 5 times per year?

Ive havent seen them on National TV that many times as far as I can remember. Regionally yes. What 4 games were they the "nationally televised games" last year?

With the signing of Edge and the NFL wanting to show off one of its newest stadiums, there is a fairly strong chance that the Cards have A nationally televised game (probably against Seattle where the fantasy football audience would be enough to grab ratings). Still its more than likely a Monday night game, which remember is the smaller game

Winning means precisely squat when it comes to determining national games. Ratings are the only factor

Do you really think that the rest of the country really cares to see the CArds play because they have a new stadium? I certainly dont.

So if winning doesnt do it and ratings do, what do you think will draw more ratings Pittsburgh vs. New England on Sunday night or the Cards in their new stadium playing the Cowboys? I would be willing to bet it would be the former rather than the latter. It all has to do with the fact that we have sucked year after year and the Cowboys lately have just been average.

We actually had a national game for several years in a row with our home opener being in the evening.

The Cowboys were 5-11 for 3 straight seasons and yet were on national TV constantly. Trust me an Edge vs Alexander matchup would be good enough to draw a fairly large fantasy football audience.

As for the new stadium, it isn't what the people want its the NFL trying to show to get other markets to get new stadiums. They're trying to get new stadiums built everywhere so they'll gladly show off and hint that this may happen in "your area"

Even now, some fans are thinking that the Cards are going to get a Sunday Night Football game. :doi:

The only way to guarantee a nationally-broadcast home game is to make the playoffs. The NFL doesn't care about the Cards' new stadium, and national fans certainly don't either. The reason that the Lions got an extra game was because Detroit has a significant national following (I still see Barry Sanders jerseys around) and people will watch them. Same with Dallas. If your team becomes a national institution, you'll get broadcast games even when you're bad because people will watch them (watch the Packers get a nationally-televised game or two). But when you're stadium is regularly half-full and your games haven't been honestly sold out in a decade or more, you're not going to get a lot of love.

If the Cards do get a nationally-televised game, it will be the Monday night (ESPN) game, because the NFL seems to like getting as many teams involved in that game as they can. Whether or not it will be at home (instead of "at home") is another matter altogether.

The NFL doesn't care about the Cards' new stadium,

Wow, how blantanly wrong.

Tell that to Tagliabue who saw most of the league improve or build new stadiums during his tenure. The NFL is a 32 team league and many decisions are made about the welfare of the league in general. Sure, the networks don't want to show games that nobody cares about, but the simple fact is that the league does a lot of things to better itself as a whole.

How do you know that Bidwill didn't work some kind of deal about going to Mexico in exchange for a Sunday Night Game in the new stadium. Not saying he did, but the owners make lots of side deals and we have no knowledge into those deals.

The league thought enough of the Cards and Glendale to put the Super Bowl there in 2008.

Besides, the majority of Sunday Night Games will not be fixed anyways. They will move games into the evening during the last half of the season based on matchups. Best bet is a Monday Night Game.

Even when we sucked with regularity we still had nationally televised games (not all of the Sunday Night games are what you call winners). Monday Night was a completely different story.

With the fantasy football implications and with NFL wanting to show off its new stadium (and yes the NFL does care), they have a chance to get a (as in single) nationally televised game and it would be the minor game which is now Monday Night. Thats all I'm saying

Its not impossible as people make it out to be ... sheesh

Yes I remember those. They were the home openers because it was so hot. It didn't help out tickets at all so the NFL finally said "F Em." That faithful 30,000 were going to go wether it was 110 or 70 degrees.

The only game I remember winning was the Dallas game where we tore the GP down after the game.

We were usually cannon fodder. I'd have to check to make sure though.

I remember the last Sunday Night game in SDS (not in Mexico) was against Denver (9/23/2001). A crushing defeat at the hands of the Broncos. Previously, I think it was the Buffalo Bills December 19, 1999 -- back when the NFL used to schedule the December Sunday and Monday night games in warm weather climate.

Also, the Cards did play on 12/15/2002 on Sunday Night Football AT St. Louis. The last home game in Tempe was in 2001.

Now, it seems they'll schedule a December Monday Night Game in New England when it's 15 degrees out.
