I have mixed emotions about this..
It's great that the Cards are going to be packing em in now, but sad that 90 percent of them are little fairweather fan biz-natches. :(
I'm totally stoked, but I do fear that half of those season tickets were sold to ticket brokers that will wind up selling to opposing teams fans. I think we'll have a good 35,000 - 45,000 Cardinal fans at every game though!!!

This is awesome! I doubt half of those went to brokers though. Some, yes. Half, no.

I wouldn't worry about bandwagoners.

1) This is my first year buying cardinals tickets but I'm about as far from a bandwagon fan as you can get. I'd say most of the ticket buyers are the same: Not willing to spend money on season tickets so we can get sore backs, fry in 100+ weather and then stand in line to use the bathroom. (As a note, I did still go to those games whenever someone I knew had tickets...which is how I knew how uncomfortable it could be).

2) Bandwagoners usually come on board when the team starts winning. We haven't done that yet.

3) Not supporting ownership for putting a crappy product on the field doesn't make you a bandwagoner. It's very possible that the fans bought more tickets because they finally saw management putting the pieces together. Again, we haven't won anything yet, so to me, that's not a bandwagon fan. You'd have to follow the Cardinals to get excited enough to buy season tickets based solely on what they've done in the off-season.

I believe the vast majority of those season ticket owners are indeed real Cardinals fans.

In certain respects, Cardinal fans are dysfunctional.

We chafe at other teams fans showing up at Sundevil stadium and wish that we could have a stadium full of red-wearing Card fans --

yet at the same time, as soon as we get that, we label these new season ticket holders ( the ultimate in putting their money where their mouth is) as "bandwagoners"

Certainly they may not have suffered through the joy of watching bad football while getting roasted in the sun and being heckled in your own stadium, but I think they should be welcomed, not treated with even a hint of derision.

When the Cards win the Superbowl at some point, and that co worker has finally peeled the Bear sticker off of his car and declares himself a Cardinal fan -- that is the guy who can be tarred with the bandwagoner label.

I'm in total shock. I'm also kinda screwed now when it comes to getting to a game this year...
Plenty of tickets will be available from brokers/scalpers; they will just cost you a little more.

I'm off the opinion that the stands will be 90% full of fans wearing red or are going to get red. I could be wrong....But that's what I'm hearing.

Another thought . If scalpers had so many tickets last year from them buying directly from the box office how could they sell them cheaply as all were discounted. I think they bought them off fans that didn't want them. Well, that means that the scalpers had very few under their name and thus did not get called to pick seats. Yes there will be plenty around but it will go from season ticket holder to scalper to buyer. Now if everyone wants to just go to the games..Less for scalpers more red.

What you have said makes some sense, sees, I am sure that many past season ticket holders didn't care to go to all the games, and therefore sold some of their tickets. And that type of exchange will be somewhat reduced this season, but I don't believe that the Cardinals are yet at a point where it will be difficult to obtain tickets.

In fact, I checked the other day. Went to stubhub.com and a couple other sights that sell tickets. Plenty of tickets for sale for Cardinals games for the 2006 season. What is interesting however is the asking price for some of them. I actually saw 40-45 yardline first row tickets (Broncos or Cowboys game, I forget which) for sale with a asking price of $600. Unbelievable! Regular $55 dollar seats were asking from $75 to $150 dollars...

It's getting better, but don't expect there to be a "sea of red" just yet. Now, if the Cardinals win...

$600 bucks for a seat..Now I know there will be some type of lottery for the super bowl tickets. Very few will actually get to buy them. But if any of us are lucky enough and if the Cardinals should happen to be playing two years from now what do you think those tickets might be worth?

Anybody want some good news about scalping? Right now, the Cardinals vs. Rams game is responsible for 984 available tickets on www.stubhub.com. As a relative equivalent, they also have 1,802 available tickets for the Redskins game against the Cowboys at Texas Stadium. Granted, it could be due to slow scalpers (who apparently don't want to sell yet), or the relative number of Cardinals tickets being resold is far less than the Cowboys, a team you would expect to draw plenty of home town support.

(Drawing my pinkie, extended from my fist to the corner of my mouth): ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

I can't really picture how much someone would have to offer me before I'd give them up.

I just went over to that hub.com and I got depressed for the first time in a long while. How do they get so many tickets from so many venues. They are selling my section for over $400 a ticket. Folks we are in the wrong business. How could the law let them sell it for so much over fair value? Don't answer that I know, but it bugs me that these people can by the seats at price and then take a $75 ticket and offer it(nice guys) for over $400. And there are a lot of them. In every section for every game and they are asking a lot for pre season as well.

Oh well off my chest back to cinco demayo ... Here's looking at you!

They can do it because there is a market for it. If people are willing to pay then thats their problem. If nobody payed those prices the HUB would be out of business.

It's just supply and demand. People weren't complaining when you could get 50 yard line seats for $20 each at Sun Devil.

Scalpers give a chance for everyone to go to games that they otherwise couldn't go to. E.g., fans in Green Bay and Washington, because of the huge waiting list, would never get to go to the games if it weren't for scalpers.

An out-of-towner like me, who can't commit to season tickets because I'll only be in AZ 1 or 2 weeks per year, wouldn't have any other way to get tickets if not for scalpers.

Scalpers come in most handy for events that go on sale at the box office a specific time (like game 7 of the World Series or a big concert). Some people can't camp out for tickets. Why punish them by not making tickets available for a price they are willing to pay?

Personally, I wouldn't pay $400 for a ticket. You know what I'm going to do? Not buy the $400 ticket, wait, and hope there are cheaper tickets available for the game I want to go to.

Thanks to the Cards, too, for not gouging us. I still can't believe the best seats were only $75 a piece.

:)

I cannot fathom turning on my TV and seeing a sold out Cardinal football game. The TV broadcasters will not have to zoom in to give you an effect of a much larger crowd than there really is. Watching the Cards has reminded me of watching a Div II college game as far as attendance goes. I have said it befor and will say it again I think this gives us an extra 3-6 points a home game.

That is not true. As early as last Friday you could have gotten tickets to 10 games for under $300 which may not be much more than what you will end up paying a scalper for 1-2 games.

We have a couple of out-of-town board members who will miss most of the games but have bought season tickets realizing this, and not only will they be going to the games they want, they may even make a profit on their unused tickets as seats get scarce. (But if they sell them to opposing fans I will give them crap!)

Back to the sellout -- the Bidwills are finally realizing their dream of a sold out building with A/C in Arizona. This stadium has been talked about, voted on, moved from site to site, etc. for about 10 years. Nice to see it finally coming to completion!!

The sellouts will be nice. Not sure what to expect, though, because I'm used to a smaller, but very die hard crowd at Sun Devil Stadium. Hopefully the fans are just as passionate, but a lot more of them.
