I know I posted that we really should draft an O-Lineman in the 1st. But, we better draft him if he is starring us in the face at 31. This guy will be a 10 uear starter in the NFL. Bank it.

He definitely solidified himself as the #4 RB in the draft with a very solid combine.

I wouldn't complain if we drafted him in the 2nd, but I feel that he is still a reach at #31. We should do what we did last season and draft on need and value (passing up on Mendenhall for DRC), so I'd rather have a guy like Larry English, Aaron Maybin, James Laurinaitis, etc. The only back I'd draft at #31 is either Moreno or McCoy.

If we drafted Donald Brown I wouldn't mind that at all.

But I would like to see the Cardinals draft Rashad Jennings. He lit it up at the combine, not only in the 40 but in other areas as well.

Plus he was very productive in college, and he is a BEAST of a man.

Our offense is already great. We need defense, defense, defense. CB's, OLB's and a nickle safety. I realize we need a RB (if Edge leaves and we don't sign a FA), and a C, to compete with Sendlein, but defense should be addressed first. Either in FA or the Draft. Makes no sense trying to figure out the Draft until we see what happens in FA, with our own FA's and others. JMO.

Makes sense but just don't think we will do much in free agency this year as we really need to keep our own. That starts with signing Warner and trying to get Dansby under contract rather than the franchise tag.

You'll get no argument here....Donald Brown is a very well rounded hard working athlete and would be a great fit; would prefer a trade up to get Moreno, but if Brown is there at 31 that's fine (might also be worth the risk to trade down 8-10 slots and save money on Brown and add a another pick)....

In years past we were always drafting in the top 10 or higher. I was easy to narrow our choice down to several players. Now drafting at #31 I do not have a clue who will be there or what we will have as a priority. I would put the odds rather high on anyone selecting our number 1 and really high for #2. I have not idea.

Brown looked great but so did alot of other backs. I'd go with a pass rusher in the first and wait until a later round to pick up a RB. There are so many quality backs that they could pick up a decent guy to pair with Hightower in the third, fourth or fifth rounds.

I agree.

That said - Brown - who along with Moreno - lived down the road a piece in Middletown, NJ (Moreno went to one of the two Middletown high schools. Brown attended Red Bank Catholic) - does have a few minor downside concerns -

- He might lack the bulk and leg drive to be a true bell-cow runner at the NFL level.

- He's a bit narrow in his shoulders/may lack the frame to add much weight.

- He's said to have marginal size and strength as a pass blocker.

- Earlier UConn RB's have struggled in the NFL. How much of Brown's success was due to the blocking of OT William Beatty?

My only concern has mostly to do with "fit." Does Wiz want a feature back to shoulder 75% of the ball carrying responsibilities? Or does he want a co-equal RB to share the ball carrying with Hightower on a 50-50 basis? Or does he feel Timmy is big enough (or can become big enough thru the offseason weight program) to be our bell cow back?

If Wiz wants a feature back other than Hightower, will he want a 210 pound guy like Brown or someone bigger (like Moreno, Wells, Shonn Green, Andre Brown (who ran a 4.49), Rashad Jennings or Javaris Williams (who ran a 4.52)?

Incidently, the one RB totally off my radar screen who has posted impressive numbers is Mike Goodson (4.54 forty, 39½ VJ, 9-10 broad jump, 6.89 3-Cone and 4.22 20-yd shuttle).

(Note - I just had to check out Goodson - Turns out he weighs about the same as Donald Brown, but is considered more of a 210 lb scatback with explosive speed and jukiness but not a lot of power and who had "issues" with 2 sets of Texas A &M coaches during his college career. (In the words of Gilda Radnor's character (Emily Latella) - "Never mind."

i agree with you john h, and i feel with 7 quality picks, we should go rb 1st if a worldbeater is there. we have 6 other picks to strengthen our team through bpa purely without regards to need.

BPA depending on if we make a trade that gets us another Round 1 pick. I wouldn't have a problem going with Donald Brown at 31 if he's still there. If we decide to wait until #63 to go RB, I want us to select Shonn Greene if he's still there.

I don't want to trade up at all this year. Although we made the super bowl this year we were extremely lucky to stay fairly healthy for the most part and our lack of depth has killed us in the past. We are very thin at OL, RB, CB, S, TE (we don't really have a productive one), and desperately need a dependable threat of a pass rusher.
