I think the jury is still out on JJ. He had a bad rookie year, but we also had a very bad Line.

He is going into his what 3rd year? He didnt get much chance at all to run last year. I think we need to give him one more year to see what he's got. He needed to run harder & last year it looked like he did. If he pans out he would be a perfect change of pace from Edge.

JJ played like a QB trying to avoid a hit. That has nothing to do with being a rookie but a lot to do with heart. We sure need a better return man than JJ>

I think we need to have some competition for #2 RB, and I don't mean M Shipp.

We need more than JJ as a #2, A lot more. If a good RB is there at #1 or #2 I would consider him. JJ is never going to be a big time runner IMHO.

Watch the last 5 games if you have 'em...even on returns he was finding a landing area instead of using his so-called speed to find a hole...face it, the only reason he was even in the game was because DG's ego could not allow "his pick" to be deemed a BUST!

We have guys from our practice squad and IR from last year who could outperform JJ (Ferri and Robinson) and for KR's I would try Watkins or McCoy... at least enough speed to give the blockers a chance...JJ IS a bust!

I don't suppose you picked the last 5 games because if you went back one game it would include the 99 yard KO return for a TD?

I disagree. Edge is only 28 and can still carry the load, we won't need a future replacement for him for three more years and Marcel Shipp is a perfectly capable back up. No way we're going to try to replace a future HOFer while he still is in his twenties. If Thomas is gone, we really only have two options. Either trade down into the teens so we could get Levi Brown, or take Jamaal Anderson. Either one would be fine by me as long as we don't take AD.
how about alan branch?

I can obviously understand the need to bolster the OL, but if Thomas isn't available at #5, then Peterson just may be the pick. James isn't getting any younger & JJ looks like a bust to me. Peterson has some durability issues, but this guy is the complete package & could be a HOF type runner. If Grimm & Whiz are as good as advertised, then draft some O-Linemen in rounds 2, 3 or 4. Don't get me wrong, if Thomas is there, I'd take him. He's a mountain of a man & will be a Pro Bowler. I'm feeling he won't be, so I think Peterson is the next best pick.

Don't like it. Branch is no doubt a great player, but our DTs have played very well all year and our run defense has been for the most part very good. We're very shallow at DE, and both of our starters are in their thirties. Anderson is a guy who has all the potential in the world, and after he sits for a year, will be a definite force on the Cards D-line.

DE is definitely a bigger need than DT I'd agree with that.

BTW welcome aboard.

If I had included that game I would have heard all the raving about his TD...what other contribution has he made in 3 years? Or what has he done to make anyone believe he can play at THIS level against THIS level competition? I was initially okay with this pick based on his "potential" and his NCAA numbers...but he has consistently been a disappointment and I am sure there are better options out there than him as a backup if Edge goes down...I like Shipp and I hope we keep him, but JJ is a bust HERE...maybe he can go on the 4 years later plan to be successful ala Thomas Jones...but I don't want to count on him HERE! JMHO

Well he's only played 2 years but I don't disagree with you I was just pointing out that picking 5 games was a bit iffy since if you went back one more game he had a 99 yarder.

Another way to look at it is the 2 longest returns of the season for him, 99 and 46, occurred in his last 6 games?

I certainly didn't think he set the world on fire I just think if Green really wanted to push him because he picked him, he wouldn't have been playing him on kick coverage all year. I saw him try to BLOCK a punt earlier this year. I think Green thinks he's soft and was trying to toughen him up by having him do things a typical 2nd round RB doesn't get asked to do.

I'm all for drafting peterson by the way I've been saying that for awhile now, I was mainly just complaining about saying the last 5 games since it was chosen specifically to remove his best return of the year.

Sounds like the same complaints that people had about Thomas Jones. He sure sucks. I wouldn't complain if we ended up with Peterson though.

Age is irrelevant on a RB it's mileage you have to look at, carries in particular

very well put....no perfectly put!! running backs are "funny" and you are right on the mark russ...take a guy like neil anderson circa bears...he was a good back from the day he broke in...but 2/3 years later he started to lose it and lost it in year four...as you pointed out a running back can only take so many hits and age is irrelevant...some can take more (walter p) than others...like JJ...i think we can color him pretty much finished for us..and in his case it is not a question of age..OR being hit too many times...he appears not to have what it takes to thrive a rb....peterson may be the answer at 5....although the bears have a peterson i wouldn't mind either!!!

He did play very soft his rookie year for what ever reason. But he has run alot harder since. I dont know if he is a bust or not I just think we have made ALOT of RB's look bad untill the last half of this year, so we should give him one more shot before we right him off.

I agree he should not be a return man.

Why is evryone still down on shipp? He had to run behind the same tired line that JJ had to, yet all I hear is excuses for him. My question is why are'nt the same considerations made for Marcel? I'd take him over JJ everyday and twice on Sunday. He's never had a TRUE chance to be a featured back. Give the guy a break man he's earned it my opinion.

JJ "tiptoe" Arrington ...

Hes still hearing footsteps after the hit by Roy Williams ..

He needs to get past that and learn to run with a purpose .. he is history if he does not learn to do that ...

The Valley so low.

I wonder if we could raise JJ's trade value if we claimed that he was basically dogging it here and could be another Jones if the right team traded for him? j/k, I guess....
