Ian Eagle is typically considered the crème de la crème when it comes to sports broadcasters. There aren't too many people who do the job better.
When you pair him with a good color commentator? Whew, boy. Sparks fly. It's an incredible sports-watching experience.
So you just know the combo of Eagle and J.J. Watt is going to be so good on CBS next year. The Athletic's Andrew Marchand first reported that these two would be coming together next season. Watt is sliding into the No. 2 slot that Charles Davis occupied last season. He worked in the studio for CBS last season but got his first taste of being in the booth after calling a Christmas Day game on Netflix.
This hilarious text exchange between Eagle and Watt shows how in sync the two already are. This is hilarious.
Guys. First of all, Ian Eagle signing off on all of his texts with an Eagle? That's incredible. 10 out of 10 — no notes.
Watt sending him a picture of a cold tub and a sauna as preparation work also absolutely seems like some over-the-top process the future Hall of Famer would definitely adopt to get ready to call a football game. The best part is obviously Eagle responding with the Ashton Hall signature banana and sparkling spring water. Again. 10 out of 10. Not one single note.
Get these guys on the call already.
