What a jackass (pun intended). When you do stupid things, one phrase that my father taught me comes to mind: If you can't be smart, you gotta be tough. Well, drinking and then getting into a sports car is one really stupid thing to do, by a person known for doing really stupid things. Sadly, no amount of 'tough' was going to save him.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Thank God none of the stupid things I've done in my younger years ever costed me my life or others theirs.

RIP. :(

Eberts comments, however accurate they may be, were in really poor taste. The kid hadn't even been dead 24 hours, he had a family, a mother and lots of friends still trying to absorb the shock and horror of his death and Roger Ebert feels the need to make some smartass comments on twitter.

Pretty low rent if you ask me. Poor timing at the least. Can you let the kids be dead and the family grieve a little before you get on your soapbox?

I have no problem with it, aside from at the time I don't think it was reported what his BAC was (I hadn't heard it at least)

Apparently he tested .196 - homeboy was loaded and speeding in a sports car

Just be glad it was a single car accident

"Jackass" star Ryan Dunn had received at least 23 driving citations in the 13 years before his fatal car accident Monday.

Pennsylvania police say they believe Dunn, 34, was driving at least 130 m.p.h. when his Porsche 911 GT3 veered off the road, slammed through a guardrail, tumbled into a wooded ravine, hit a tree, and burst into flames.

Of Dunn's driving citations, 10 were for speeding and careless driving, and three more were for driving with a suspended license, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Among those, 90 percent of which ended in guilty pleas, was a 2005 DUI arrest. Charges were dropped when he completed a probationary program. His license was suspended for more than a year, court records show.

Sometimes the worst and most horrible people in the world are enabled, cheered, and invariably ignored. Looks to me like his support system was non-existent.

I am fine with Ebert's post. In fact, if the people who loved and cared for him are reeling from the horrible death, they should have decided to be more pro-active in their "love".

Double the limit? Wow. 130Mph.... Wow. And based on his history, the drinking didn't cause him to speed. The dude lived like he died. On fire.

Hopefully he rests in peace. He certainly didn't like to live in peace.

Check out the crash photos on TMZ. The car is a mangled piece of burned metal. Sad.

Speaking from personal experience, there is only so much one can do to get help for a loved one in that situation. If that person doesn't want help or doesn't think he needs it, then you can't force it on them, no matter how "proactive" you are or how much you love him.

It doesn't necessarily make the person the "the worst and most horrible people in the world." And it also doesn't mean those people are enabled and/or ignored.

You're one of my very favorite posters on the Cards board (don't tell anyone I have favorites ... I'm a teacher), anytimeuwant, and, while I hate DUI and DWI as much as anyone, I don't think you can blame the grieving loved ones for anything here. If anything, and, again, talking from personal experience, they have my prayers and sympathy.

Check out the recent biography on Steve-O that ran on the Biography Channel. He was pretty much going to kill himself he was so many drugs but those guys came together and forced him into rehab. Sometimes no matter how hard you try you aren't able to save everyone.

Margera predicted Dunn car crash
http://jam.canoe.ca/Movies/2011/06/23/18325826-wenn-story.html

Five years before the tragedy, Margera openly criticized his friend's driving skills and predicted he would suffer injuries in a serious road smash.

In an episode of Margera's MTV show Viva La Bam in 2006, he was heard discussing Dunn's driving ability with his mother after the pair took part in a Lamborghini-versus-limousine race.

Margera said, "He's the worst driver... He's gonna eat it (get injured) one of these times."

Margera's mom added, "The car he almost killed you kids in was not his car... He'll never learn his lesson... He always drives like an a**hole, I'm serious. I'll tell you, he's gonna eat it some day in a car accident."

Another friend in the video also voices his concerns, adding, "I have him in the death pool for death by vehicle."

See.... Now I feel bad. Your probably right. It's hard to help someone who refuses it. That doesn't mean you don't still love them.

I guess responding to Bert's post got me thinking. How much "reeling" can a family do that saw this end coming miles away? "Numb" is the first word that comes to mind.

I am sympathetic to the family. And they must be shocked at this outcome. No matter what they have seen him do in the past.

Dude I dont get your attitude towards me but whatever. Regardless of what kind of road he was going down you dont think his Mother was still hoping for the best? You dont think she was shocked to find out her son had just killed himself and another person in a car accident?

I wasn't making any excuses for his behavior, I was simply pointing out that Ebert didn't need to piss on his grave the day he died, before it had even been dug.

The slightest bit of class and sensitivity is all I was asking of the guy, he had a lifetime to be critical of him for his behavior, he didn't need to get on his soapbox just hours after he died.

Jackass' star Ryan Dunn, RIP. His Porsche flew through 40 yards of trees. Friends don't let jackasses drink and drive. - Roger Ebert

Seriously, I don't get the backlash at Ebert at all.

Let's break it down:

1. Jackass' star Ryan Dunn, RIP. - any issue with that?
2. His Porsche flew through 40 yards of trees. - fact.
3. Friends don't let jackasses drink and drive. - a play on words from "Friends don't let friends drink and drive."

Was what Ebert said really "out there" or "uncalled for" ?? Is it his one word substitution that has fans of the show so up in arms? Ridiculous, IMHO.

As someone who has personally been hit head-on by a drunk driver and also lost friends to drunk drivers , I'll be the first to say what Ebert said was fine. We should all be thankful that this dead loser (Dunn) didn't take anyone but his drinking buddy with him.

No attitude Bert. Sorry if it came across that way.

Funny thing is, with so many wishing death upon Ebert now, the fact remains that if Friends didn't let Jackasses drive drunk, Ryan Dunn (and his friend) would still be alive.
