Tuesday marks a new era in the sports scene of Northeast Florida.

The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp are officially unveiling their new-look VyStar Ballpark as they host their home opener tonight.

The park underwent a $31.5 million renovation project this offseason to redesign several aspects of the more than 20 year old structure.

They completely rebuilt the home and visiting clubhouses after studying several other minor league parks. Two added structures in right and center field will allow a different view of the park and allows for parties and gatherings to take place.

They also added an entrance behind center field, allowing direct access from the central parking lot. The original entrance behind home plate is still accessible as well.

The Shrimp Souvenir Store will be accessible from the street and concourse level and it's located behind the centerfield wall. Despite the major renovations, ticket fares are still low as $5 and hotdogs will remain $2.

“This ballpark is almost going to be unrecognizable when you see it,” Jumbo Shrimp owner Ken Babby told the Times-Union recently. “When the fans walk in here after the last coat of paint is put on [in right field], it’s going to look and feel like a brand new ballpark.”
