With Machado off the market could the Dbacks counter with a much bolder move like trading for a controllable ace like DeGrom?

What would it take to get a deal for him done? Do we even have enough to make that happen?

Something like (based on meds percieved needs) Marte, Duplantier, Cron, Clarke, and Chafin? Maybe add a long term guy like Perdomo?

They would get 5 guys they could plug into their Major league roster as early as next season.

We would get an ace to pair with grienke and hopefully Ray picks it up. Just a thought and to be clear I know very little about what they would want or if the prospects are acceptable ... Just bored mostly!

It would cost a ton, probably more than Machado, he's a 30 million dollar per year arm and whoever has him will save 20 mil a year on that the next 2 seasons.

But I think he'd be worth it if we have the prospects to get a deal done. A few hot pitchers can be enough to win the WS if you can manage to make the playoffs.

It would take what it reportedly would’ve taken to get Jose Fernandez a couple years back. Major and minor league talent... deGrom has two and half years of service left.

If deGrom was on the market, we would not be the top bidder. That's the reality.

MLB trade rumors roundup: Mets unlikely to deal aces, Phillies eye relievers, Indians nab Hand
There's been talk, as most of us know by now, of the Mets possibly trading star starting pitchers Jacob deGrom and/or Noah Syndergaard. The price tag on either always figured to be very high, but now some reports are surfacing that moving either right now is unlikely. James Wagner of the New York Times has a Twitter thread on the matter.

Basically, the Mets want upper-level minor-league elite prospects and/or major-league players and there don't seem to be many great matches.

I can't believe I'm gonna say this, but, the Mets are being smart to hold onto deGrom and Thor... Unless they were being offered the next guaranteed Trout, or the next guaranteed deGrom/Scherzer/Severino, which they're not, there is no point in unloading these guys for considerably less talent and less value.

Yup - and two years more control is a long time. Heck, the Mets could sign Machado and a couple others and be a contenda quickly with those two leading the rotation
