Jacob Fowler already has his first professional win and now he may have more responsibility heaped on him. Connor Hughes is now out for the next 2-4 weeks with an injury. This now becomes a bigger opportunity for the rookie goalie.
You never want to gain playing time because of injury but in hockey this happens quite frequently. Fowler is uniquely ready for a challenge like this because he’s always had a lot of responsibility no matter the team he’s been on in international play or league play. Fowler has more experience than a lot of goalies his age.
Can I say he will see playoff action? I can’t predict that. Would I use him? Maybe, but he will start on the bench and take in the action. Cayden Primeau is 20-2-2 so what are the odds he gets removed for anything other than an injury? Those chances are super slim.
This is the perfect situation for Fowler. For him to grow, get the experience and for a while, he will have the best seat in the house. He gets all the benefits of being on the team and now he has to be mentally ready to be able to play. That’s important and that’s something else for him to learn. He’s used to being a number one for most of his career. He has been the #2 internationally so he can draw from that experience.
