The Arizona Cardinals made more of a commitment than they have in the past for a backup quarterback with the signing of Jacoby Brissett. We have the details to the two-year contract he signed to be Kyler Murray's backup.

The well-traveled Brissett is entering his 10th NFL season and the Cardinals will be his sixth different team in six years starting in 2020 when he was with the Indianapolis Colts. Since then, it’s been the Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Washington Commanders and New England Patriots.

There was interest in Brissett in 2023 after Jonathan Gannon was hired as head coach, but a deal could not be made and Brissett was signed by the Commanders to a 1-year, $8 million contract with $7.5 million guaranteed.

Colt McCoy’s elbow injury limited him throughout the offseason, and when it was decided he wouldn’t be the starter at the beginning of the season because of Kyler Murray’s continuing ACL rehab, a trade was made for Joshua Dobbs late in the summer.

Last year, there was again interest in Brissett, but he went to the Patriots on another 1-year, $8 million contract, but with $6.5 million guaranteed. The Cardinals acquired Desmond Ridder in a trade from the Atlanta Falcons, but he was cut at the end of training camp, was signed to the practice squad before being signed by the Las Vegas Raiders on Oct. 22. He is currently a free agent after not being tendered by the Raiders as a restricted free agent.

The Cardinals got serious this time around with Brissett. He was quickly signed last week to a 2-year, $12.5 million contract with $6.5 million guaranteed, not $8 million as originally reported.

Jacoby Brissett contract details

The full guaranteed money includes a $3.5 million signing bonus along with his $3 million base salary for 2025. There is $1.5 million guaranteed for injury only at signing and it becomes fully guaranteed at some point in March, 2026, when his salary is $4.88 million.

There are $30,000 per-game roster bonuses each year for a max total of $510,000 plus $50,000 workout bonuses each year.

The salary-cap charge is $5.31 million in 2025 and $7.19 million in 2026.

For the 10 signed players with published contract details (Brissett, Dalvin Tomlinson, Josh Sweat, Baron Browning, Mykal Walker, L.J. Collier, Evan Brown, Akeem Davis-Gaither, Joey Blount and Aaron Brewer) plus the 1-year restricted free-agent tender for Greg Dortch, the total cap hit this year is $44.152 million.

We still do not have the official figures for additions Jake Curhan and Simi Fehoko along with re-signed players Kelvin Beachum and Zay Jones.
