With the first round of the 2025 NFL draft nearing its start, we are getting closer to having our answer to the big question: Who are the Jacksonville Jaguars going to select?
Particularly in the last few days, there has been no shortage of reports. The general consensus seems to be that not many have any real clarity on what the Jaguars are going to do. As one executive told Adam Schefter, the Jaguars are a "wild card."
My guess is that this is exactly how GM James Gladstone wants it. In part, the team didn't host prospects on 30 visits because he didn't want to tip their hand. When there is are unknowns during the draft, leverage can come with that.
So, before the Jaguars find themselves on the clock, we've been keeping track of all the draft-related rumors and news surrounding Jacksonville.
After Mason Graham was the overwhelming favorite in mocks, Ashton Jeanty has now taken that title over the last week. The consensus among experts and insiders now seems to be that the Jaguars are going offense in Round 1.
Here is what Mel Kiper Jr. had to say:
"It sure sounds like Jacksonville is going offense. I commonly projected Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham there over the past few months, but the latest intel is saying Coen and the Jaguars are targeting Jeanty or perhaps Arizona receiver Tetairoa McMillan."
Ian Rapoport recently suggested that moving up to pick No. 2 could be on the Jaguars' radar. As Rapoport put it, James Gladstone "will not be timid."
"My understanding is that the Jaguars will not be timid," Rapoport said. "They're going to be bold. They're going to do in a way what James Gladstone's mentor, I guess you would say, Les Snead did, which is be bold. Could the Jaguars try to move up from 5 to, I don't know, let's say 2?
"I know the Cleveland Browns have received some calls. Maybe they try at least from now until the beginning of the draft to make that leap. Maybe that's for Travis Hunter. It would be bold. Would the Browns do it? We don't know. Keep an eye on the Jaguars."
Jeanty is now the favorite to go to the Jaguars at pick No. 5, but in their effort to make an addition on offense, perhaps wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan could be in play. ESPN's Peter Schrager would mention that the Jaguars have an "affinity" for him.
"It could possibly happen," Schrager told Adam Schefter on 'Get Up' via Jaguars on SI. "I think offense is the pick. You said that in your good column on Monday morning, I would add that Tet McMillan has met with the Jaguars. They do have an affinity for him and Liam Coen used to coach a guy named Mike Evans in Tampa Bay, who is the most comparable player to Tet McMillan when you talk about the ceiling for that young man."
The Athletic's Dianna Russini is hearing that the Jaguars want to keep this draft "electric." When I hear that, to me, that means leaning into the unpredictable element.
"In fact, I was told the Jaguars are hoping to keep this draft 'electric' with the first-year tandem of head coach Liam Coen and GM James Gladstone," Russini wrote.
Adding to the mystery around the Jaguars in Round 1 is that Schefter mentioned Jacksonville as one of the teams that are also "interested" in trading down from the fifth pick.
