As ESPN's Peter Schrager laid out in his one and only mock draft and then again on 'Get Up,' he believes the pick at No. 5 for the Jacksonville Jaguars is Ashton Jeanty.
However, and of note at least, Schrager would also add that the Jaguars do really like wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan as well.
"It could possibly happen," Schrager told Adam Schefter on 'Get Up' via Jaguars on SI. "I think offense is the pick. You said that in your good column on Monday morning, I would add that Tet McMillan has met with the Jaguars. They do have an affinity for him and Liam Coen used to coach a guy named Mike Evans in Tampa Bay, who is the most comparable player to Tet McMillan when you talk about the ceiling for that young man."
Depending on whether you consider Travis Hunter a cornerback or a receiver, McMillan is widely thought of as either the first or second-best wide receiver in this year's class.
Over the last two seasons, McMillan has totaled a whopping 260 targets during that span. He's gone on to haul in 67% of those passes and an impressive 15.6 yards per catch with 18 touchdowns, according to PFF.
The combination of McMillan and Brian Thomas Jr. would give Liam Coen an incredible amount of flexibility when it comes to how he constructs game plans to go after opposing defenses.
Both players can line up inside and out and both can attack all levels of the field and do so in a variety of ways. That interchangeability brings some unpredictability to an offense and can keep defenses guessing.
While the offense is going to run through Thomas, as Coen as said, spreading the ball around is going to be an important element as well so defenses can't simply cloud Thomas on every single play. But in order for that strategy to be effective, the Jaguars need a steady second and third option on the depth chart at receiver.
Perhaps Parker Washington and/or Dyami Brown can be those players--that's the hope--but that shouldn't be assumed, nor should their presence on the roster stop the Jaguars from adding to this unit.
Perhaps the big question when it comes to McMillan and the Jaguars is, from a value perspective, would trading back to then attempt to select him be the prudent move instead?
