I think it might actually be Thompson who's playing closer to the LOS, because Baker is the better centerfielder (or was last season until we became desperate to contain the run). Thompson actually had a lower YPC allowed (6.4) than Baker did last year (7.0) and was in more plays in both the run and the pass game.Me too I'm just saying it sounds like it may be Simmons playing further back like a safety and Budda playing closer to the LOS like a LB.
That's my take at least. Here's the link I found it and a quote from Kliff about why. I bolded the part that to me implies why they're doing it and where Simmons is going to be lining up.
Cardinals notebook: Is it time to consider Isaiah Simmons a safety?

Despite the questions surrounding the decision to not keep Simmons fixed in one role, head coach Kliff Kingsbury says it all boils down to maximizing Simmons’ talent.
“I don’t feel like we’re stunting his growth (at inside linebacker),” the head coach said Wednesday. “I think the way we’ve adjusted our defense is going to play to his strengths.
“He’s a guy that when he sees the ball … from a little bit farther away like he did in college and just attack the football or be on the line or blitz like you saw him do against Dallas, he can play fast, not overthink it and just go,” Kingsbury added. “When he’s been in that role, he’s made big-time impact plays for us and that’s what we’re going to try to do just expand that role for him.”
I wonder if we'll play more Cover-3 and you trust Thompson and Simmons to force those seam players to help.
