Kent Somers has a short interesting blog on Rector being very much in the mix for the #3 WR slot.

The link to thee blog is on the front page of Asfn. apparently, he's super quick and adept at sharp changes of direction.

Sounds great! Will have to see if he can catch in a game environment. My guess is that it will end up being Doucet.

I have seen a lot of Doucet at LSU and duing the minicamp here. I will be shocked if Rector gets any higher than 5th WR over Doucet and Breaston. In fact, I think Lance Long has a better shot.

I still don't think Breaston will ever amount to anything in the passing game, never!!!

Why? He is extremely fast and elusive, if he can improve his route running and have less drops he could be our deep threat.

I would love to see Kurt in the shotgun with four receivers just picking apart defenses. Have Edge in the backfield to protect Kurt and mix it up with the run. I really hope offensive line continuity will improve the run game, and we won't be one dimensional. If we can run we can make the playoffs.

Are you talking about Steve Breaston or Bryant Johnson? At least Johnson was clutch in college. If Breaston was a terrible receiver at Michigan (and he was), why is there any hope that he'll suddenly become one in the men's league?

Funny how the Jamaica Rectors (whom Somers also suggested may not make the roster--and was unable two for two seasons on a talent-poor Dallas roster) and Steve Breastons look great during the non-contact part of the season, but as soon as the hitting starts they kind of go back to who we thought they were.

If he makes the team over Urban & Morey we are a better team.

Fitz, Boldin, Doucet, Breaston & Rector is fine by me with Long on the PS.

The above could be said about almost every speed guy who comes to an NFL camp. And because teams will invest a bit of time in "what if ...", they stick around for a few years. Breaston is a long strider, which makes it difficult to develop first rate route running, beating the jam, etc.

He has one demonstrable skill, and let's be glad for that.

There you go. That's why I doubt he'll ever be much of a WR in the NFL. I doubt Rector will ever be much of one either. But, if Somers is right about his quickness, at least he could elude jams at the LOS.

It's going to be interesting to see who steps up as #3 WR. My hunch? Ben Patrick is going to turn out to be 3 in catches this year.

True, but given what Urban and especially Morey bring to special teams, Rector has got to be a very long shot to make the team, even if he is a "coach's pet."

Think position-fit.

We have two physical stars with good but not blazing speed in Q and Fitz.

We've got a less polished but nice-sized speedster in Breaston (though to me he's an anomoly - i.e. he's proved he's quick and shifty enough but he looks a bit stiff and runs a bit high for someone with that much mobility).

Early's college write-ups describe a terrific possession route runner who may lack a step.

Then there's the rest of the pack.

What's been missing in this mix of receivers is a blazer who can cut on a dime. If Rector can show he can effectively fill that role, I think he will have a leg up on some of the others.

Everyone keeps saying that but name one big play either guy made on Special Teams that another player couldn't have made.

Morey blocked at least two blocks that I can recall and came very close on a couple of others. I can't recall the last punt the Cardinals blocked before he came on board. And both contribute on coverage units.
