Daisy, get a little positive, man. Some players, even wide receivers do improve at the pro level, particularly if they came to the NFL very unprepared.

If Rector or Breaston don't deserve to play #3 WR, they won't.

Just drawing from my knowledge of Notre Dame players, off the top of my head, two recent Notre Dame players who were lousy at the college level, became very competent pros.

David Givens and Arnaz Battle.

Battle was a wishbone QB who was benched when the Irish changed to a more pass oriented offense. Great athlete with decent speed. Turned himself into a WR. Drafted by SF in 2003 in round 6.

Sat on bench. Learned the positon from scratch. 6 years later he's a starter and the best Wr SF has. 109 receptions last two years. 50 last year, 12.0 ypc averrage, 5 TDs, 600yds.

Still underated. Production in ypc, TDs, plays longer than 20 and 40 yds, first downs have increased evey year. Very good hands. He will start this year again. Think his stats will soar under Martz?

David Givens. Huge disppointment at ND. Caught only 72 passes in 4 years, scoring 4 TDs. 7th round Pats pick in 2002, improved every year, became Tom Brady's cluth go-to guy, led the Pats in receiving 2 years, averaging over 15 ypc. Hurt last year.

Now for Jamaica Rector. UFA by Dallas in 2005. Went to Northwest Missouri Valley state, a Division 2 school with a stadium capacity of 6,500. Jamaica's last year was 2004 and the school's booster web site lists no stats prior to 2005.

I can't find any stats on him anywhere.

Some notable UFAs at WR in the NFL:

Rod Smith from Missouri Southern state.
Wes Welker UFA in 2004 from Texas Tech
Wayne Chrebet from Hofsta in 1995

I'm sure there are others but I'm moving on to other threads.

Antonio Gates was an UDFA, anything can happen if you give guys a shot to prove themselves.

BTW, I would put him on the roster just for having a cool name like Jamaica Rector! I guess this is why I work in an office and not in the NFL :D

Didn't Urban have like a 100+ receiving game once last year?

He also dropped a ton of balls and had a couple of balls he should have caught bounce off of him and end up INTs.

He stinks. Morey can't play WR either, I don't care what he did on special teams. Someone else can step up, we already have a couple of roster spots for guys who are only special teamers.

I was just giving you one silver lining about Urban.

Morey stays. It has been years before anyone has blocked a punt for us, and he blocked one, and tipped another last year alone. He gets a pass this year, even if it is on special teams.

If he makes the team over Urban & Morey we are a better team.

Fitz, Boldin, Doucet, Breaston & Rector is fine by me with Long on the PS.

Given that you've never seen Rector on the field for the Cards, I'm hard pressed to understand how you can boldly suggest the above.

I saw him at the mini camp. He looked small, speedy, and overmatched at times. What do I know.

Ok lets follow the logic...Urban and Morey are not good WRs. IF Rector beats them out that will mean he is BETTER than both of them which therefore means our WRs look better. If he fails to beat them out we are still stuck with 2 below par NFL WRs.

Was that hard to understand? I said "If he makes the team over Urban & Morey we are a better team" Keyword's being "IF" and "better"

Rector won't make ANY team if he is outplayed by those 2 and rightly so.

Nowhere did I anoint Rector a starter or say he would be an impact player.

I can't cross examine an opinion, and your views as to the value of Urban and Morey to this team, is precisely that.. an opinion.

Even if it is an opinion do you agree that if a player makes the team by beating out another player that means that player is better thereby making the team better? Not too difficult to follow.

Yes... I take your point, however, it's been pointed out that both Morey and Urban have important roles to play on special teams and that may weigh in their favour. How hard is that to follow...

Ok Morey blocked a punt or 2...Urban does NOTHING on special teams that can't be replaced. If they are both beat out it will be by better players thus the team is better..and the fact is neither offers anything as WRs, at least nothing that was demonstrated on the field last season. If Morey makes the team and its strictly as a special teamer then OK but if our 4 WR set doesn't include him we are better than we were last year in that regard.

Hey Zeno, your beef is with a self-admitted Canuck. He can't spell in American properly, lives in Quebec, probably speaks a bastardardized form of French not understood in the rest of the French speaking world but he's a Cardinals fan.

He eats better than we do. His currency buys more. His health care system is an abomination.

In this argument over Jamaica Rector, you're right and Crazy Canuck is wrong. Sheesh.

Here's to both of you (sipping a dry French Chardonay).

Bring on the draft pick signings, please.

Tell that to the approximately 50 million without healthcare in this country. Also you might want to consider those who are under-insured, those who cannot afford the premiums, those who can't get health insurance because of pre-existing conditions and the elderly who cannot afford to pay the out-of-pocket Medicare drug costs of $4,000.00 once they reach the Medicare doughnut hole.

Sorry just had to vent since you brought it up.:titanic:

Okay, this deserves to be on another board but back at you. Tell that to two neighbors on my block in Sun City who winter here from Canada and have given up waiting to be called for their surgeries back home and chosen to pay for them here so they get done before they die.

I pay three different aides low wages to take care of me. None can afford health insurance. The state of Arizona fully covers all their medical costs through the Access program. Doctor's visits, medications, surgeries (on the deformed hand of one girl's son), everything. Even eyeglasses.

Right here, in my little world, I know of no person who cannot get necessary medical care. One of my girls is an illegal and will be leaving soon to go back to Mexico and still has had every need paid for. So stick that in your preconceptions and mull on it.

Tell me your first hand knowlkedge on the politics board and I'll duke it out with you there. Where do you live, by the way?

Proud to be a Canuck.

I speak and write the Queen's English, as do a majority of anglophiles in the world; my French is that approved by the Academie Française; the day tens of millions are without basic healthcare in my country, we'll regress to your system.

But, yes... you did get a few things right: We do live longer, our petro dollar keeps climbing and we, on this board, are all Cardinal fans.

Zeno is not wrong.. But, I note - that he went from simply ignoring other factors at play, to grudgingly accepting a few.

Cheers / Salut, and I'd prefer a Pinot :D

I, for one, like our crazy friends to the north. I'll be heading in that direction the first part of June and plan on spending a few fun filled days enjoying the scenery and the locals.
