Just checked my e-mail and I have a family member who has NFL Radio and knows that I'm a big Cardinals fan. Anyway, he said that they had Jamal Lewis on recently and in his words thought Arizona was a 'big time FA destination'. He didn't give it to me quote for quote, so I will have to paraphrase here:

He basically said that money wasn't an issue (strange considering his situation in BAL) and that he thinks he could be the missing piece for our offense.

He said the problem with Baltimore is that everyone was keyed in on him and looking to take his head off because they didn't have threats on that side of the ball (besides himself).

But with two recievers the calibur of Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin and with Kurt Warner throwing the football and himself running the ball that 'Arizona could cause major match up problems for defenses'. And that with balance on offense they could be instant play off contenders.

He also praised the new stadium and the direction the franchise was heading in for several minutes and really sounded like he wanted to be a Cardinal.

I really hope he is seriosu about coming here. The comment may have been made when he was also praising other locations. EX: The Steelers are a grwat organization, they are winners and handle their palyers well, etc.

If we can get LeCharles Bentley and another Oline guy, maybe add in a safety or corner, then bring in Lewis and I'll be happy.

I still prefer to go for LenDale at 10, but if we can get JL for 4-5 million we can maybe get Vernon Davis or Pope there instead.

I will say, if we can get JL for cheap, it will make it interesting from here on out.

I think he's on a quick downside of his career though, and I think he's gonna want more like 6-7 million...

Exactly what I want to happen and it is quite possible to do

With the way the FA market is right now, I highly doubt he gets that much

He was interviewed on sirius radio....this is not a bogus rumor. He wants to be a Cardinal.

We could sure do worse at RB.

My scenario:

Sign Lewis, Bentley and Kemoeatu

Draft Davis then the best available RT in the 2nd

Offense:

Warner-Lewis-Ayanbadejo
Boldin-Fitzgerald-Davis
Big-Brown-Bentley-Ross-RT

Defense:

Berry-Dockett-Kemo-Okeafor
Dansby-Hayes-Blackstock
Rolle-Green-Macklin-Wilson

Macklin moves to FS so he can ballhawk in the secondary. With Wilson in the box, we essentially have a 4-4-3. Our offense is impossible to pinpoint. V. Davis burns any LB covering him, Boldin plays the slot and Fitz runs intermediate routes. Ross moves inside to RG so Bentley can keep a foot up his a$$ and his other one up Brown's (basically wearing those guys as shoes)....

mr. bidwill are you listening? we built your stadium so we could compete in fa like you told us, let's see it happen

I was thinking as I was reading this thread that Mr B. (Bill Bidwill) will not be too excited about bringing in a player with a drug history like JL's. If the final decision, should it come to that, is Michael's maybe he will go for it?

I like your senario, but I don't like Maklin at S at all. He's a CB and too small to play FS in the NFL.

I could live with Vernon Davis or Chad Greenway as alternate picks to LemDale, But I'd really like to get LenDale even if we sign JL. (BTW we shouldn't offer him (JL) more than 3 yrs. - just like Warner got)!

As far as I know Lewis doesn't have a history of drugs. He was punished last year for an incident before he entered the NFL.

I believe he helped set up something illegal on a cell phone. He wasn't a dealer or a buyer just a 'middle man' of some sort and gave info to a friend about where he could pick up some illegal substance.

It was cocaine. From what I remember, he was trying to make some money by "investing" in a friend that was going to buy kilos and sell them.

Youthful mistake, hopeful he no longer associates with such people.

I believe Jamal Lewis and JJ would be a good tandem for the Cards. Lewis seems to be the more powerfull runner that the cards have been looking for and we need a definite upgrade at RB

Actually, he has a strike one under the substance abuse program.....he had a marijuana conviction in 2001.

Lewis would have to be signed with a low base , high incentive contract. I suggest if we did that we could defer some of his incentives to next years cap, leaving more for this year.
It's hard for me to think Lewis is at a terrible downslide in his career. He's not old. He didn't play that much last year.

2005: Led the Ravens with 1,097 combined yards from scrimmage (906 rushing and 191 receiving) despite being slowed by offseason ankle surgery in 2005...Lewis led the Ravens with 54 1st downs (48 rushing and 6 receiving)...2005 SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: Averaged 4.5 yards per carry, picking up 89 yards on 20 carries (4 good for 1st downs) in the season finale at Cle. (1/1/06)...Lewis also hauled in 3 passes for 29 yards (2 good for 1st downs) against the Browns...Started and recorded his 28th-career 100-yard game with a 22-carry, 105-yard (4.8 avg.) and 1 TD performance in the 48-3 victory in game 14 vs. GB (12/19)...Also had 2 receptions for 9 yards against the Packers...Did not play (hand) in game 13 at Den. (12/11)...Posted his 1st 100-yard rushing game of the season with a 23-carry, 113-yard and 1 TD performance (4.9 ypc), with 9 good for 1st downs in game 11 at Cin. (11/27)...Carried the ball 19 times for 95 yards (5.0 avg.) in game 4 at Det. (10/9)...Lewis also grabbed 2 passes for 17 yards and a TD - his 1st receiving TD since 12/8/02 vs. NO...He also picked up 5 1st downs on the ground against the Lions...Paced the Ravens with 81 yards rushing and a TD on 29 carries in game 3 vs. NYJ (10/2).

Seems to me there has to be some gas left in his tank. Geez, even his mediocre games would have looked good as a CArdinal. Only 26-27 years old and 240lbs.
Sure would be nice to see a guy like this coming in on 3rd and inches...

As would I, even if a new CBA is done in time.

Plus one of the expected bigger suiters for a RB the Vikings are seemingly not interested at this point in time.

Vikings | Team not showing interest in J. Lewis
Mon, 27 Feb 2006 19:45:28 -0800

Judd Zulgad, of the Star Tribune, reports the Minnesota Vikings have not shown any interest in Baltimore Ravens RB Jamal Lewis, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent March 3. Lewis' agent, Mitch Frankel, said, "They have not expressed any interest. Usually teams in general call to say, 'We're interested and when free agency starts we'll call.' I have to assume they are not interested at this point."

Is that fricking weird or what?

Someone wanting to be a Cardinal.. Jamal Lewis no-less!!

JL fits Denny's profile too. Hungry and wanting to prove something!!!

I think this could be a good thing for JJ as well.

I think Lewis is just so pissed off that he is the only weapon on the whole O. They have been trying to fix the Passing game for so long and have failed leaving all the pressure on his shoulders as the whole O, playing against constant 8-9 men in the box can wear a dude down.

Here he doesnt have that problem. Here he just needs to worry the OL getting fixed and the 6-7 men in the box.
