Best hire this off season. He is exactly what the Brooklyn Nets needed. They are built to win now. They will be a threat next year. He would have been a lousy hire for the Phoenix Suns but for the Nets he will be great.

He will bring in the right coaches to help him on the x's and o's and he will handle everything else just fine. Deron Williams reportedly holds Kidd in high regard which is an important factor. He has an owner that will do whatever is necessary to win a ring. I expect there will be lots of players wanting to get on the train if possible, via free agency or trade.

The Nets got it right, IMO.

The East could become really difficult for the Heat next year. The Pacers should be better, Rose will be coming back in Chicago and the Nets should be better. If Atlanta lands Howard and CP3, how good will they be? The Knicks, who knows? The Celtics, who knows?

Interesting off season thus far and its early. It may set a record for the most number of coaches with winning records getting canned. It really is quite unbelievable.

He has zero coaching resume.. Nothing, nada.. You have no idea what type of system he will run.. That is why this is terrible.. At the best, I imagine he will just be a care giver.. Which isn't good because effectively the players are running the show then.. At worst he could completely destroy the team that is supposedly in the hunt.. (Which i dont believe they are in the hunt).. Who cares if the owner will spend money if the coach doesn't know what he is doing.. What has Kidd done to give any indication he will be good except for being buddies with the team starting PG?

Agree completely. When I saw this I thought it was all a media story. When he was actually signed I was blown away. Zero coaching experience. Was a player last year.. How can you go from player to coach in 1 season? Mind = blown

Yeah, I thought the interview was just a gesture of politeness and that he had no real shot. Bad hire.

They passed on Brian Shaw, George Karl, Lionel Hollins and Jeff Van Gundy for him....WOW.

Btw to those saying that its ridiculous to hire a HC with no coaching experience, Danny Ainge and Mark Jackson were both HCs with no coaching experience.

I am not sure you can call it bad quite yet. Crazy, insane and really big risk, but there is no way to know if it is a bad hire yet. Now, I think it will turn out that way, but I am curious to see how he does.

I just think he is better than anyone that is still out there.

They did go after Jackson and Van Gundy but they either didn't want the job or wanted something that the Nets were unwilling to give.

Why hasn't Brian Shaw been hired long before this? How would Deron Williams perform running the Triangle? I will be surprised if Chris Paul sticks around Clipper land if they hire Brian Shaw.

Why was Hollins fired after turning the Grizzles franchise around?

Why was VDN fired?

What year did George Karl win the Championship?

Should they have went after Mo Cheeks or Larry Drew. Why are the Clippers still looking for a coach?

Surely he has lacks head coaching experience and has never been an assistant but he is the best man available for THIS, job.

The Nets got it right, IMO.

So he lacks coaching experience on any level but he's the best man for the job because he's the best man available for the job? It's hard to argue with that. I think it's a gamble any time you hire a coach and it's a bigger gamble any time you hire someone without experience. Some players are pretty much coaches-in-training and I guess you could make the case that Jason fits this mold. Time will tell but I'd worry about Jason as a communicator, it IS a part of the job and I can't remember Kidd ever excelling at that aspect.

It surely is a gamble but I really am not that excited about any of the other available candidates. I think that is why the Nets chose Jason.

I see your point on his communications skills as well. I don't see that as a strength either. However when has Popovich ever impressed you in an interview? By the way, I think Pop is more than capable in the interview room but chooses to do it his way. Pop's strength is his communication skills with his players. I think that is where Kidd's strength will lie as well. That is not by any means putting Kidd into Pop's category. He will have to win a few titles while leading a winning program over a couple of decades to get there.

I would expect the fans in Brooklyn love the decision. Has there been any reports yet on fan response?

Jason Kidd, Avery Johnson or Carlesimo

I think Jason is a definite upgrade.

By the way, what is not not love about Pop. Someone asked him this week a question about Leonard and Pop's response was I don't know that answer, I never talk to him. Classic.
