Dan Patrick was reporting today on the radio that according to his sources Jason Kidd wants to play for the Mavs. That there has been discussion with the Mavs and that a 3 team deal would have to be made to trade Kidd. The Mavs are interested and willing to trade away some young talent. Also, Portland has jumped in. Didn't catch that last part. Don't know if he meant as wanting Kidd as well or part of the 3 way trade.

He said that more then likely if Kidd is traded at all a 3rd team will be involved and it will probably be the Mavs.

Why would Portland want Kidd with they have Roy?

Sounds like a horrible idea to me. Hell, Roy is putting up MVP type numbers in Portland, they don't need Kidd.

Maybe he meant Portland being the 3rd team in the deal??!!?! Then again, why would Portland to that either?

Exactly my point. You leave that team alone. They are already a dynasty waiting to happen with the way that they are playing.

The earlier rumored deal had Portland playing the 3rd wheel/facilitator role in the trade and it seemed like a bad move for them. They'd get a nice player in Devin Harris, but that seems redundant w/ Roy (who I guess would play more of a 2 role, with Harris at the 1?). Plus they'd be moving Outlaw and I thought they liked him a lot, but who knows.

I'm not particularly concerned if Kidd goes to the Mavs. Sure he makes them a bit better, but I still think the Suns match up well with them. Kidd can't shoot the outside shot, so its not like they'll run the P/R like they did w/ Nash and Dirk. Since Nash's departure they've played a very one on one style with Dirk and Howard just going at their defenders, so I don't see how Kidd fits into that, though they'd probably adjust the offense to incorporate his skill set.

When I saw the "proposed deal" on ESPN last night, it made shoot orange juice out of my nose. The Blazers would give up Outlaw, Frye, and Jack For ...... Devin Harris? Yeah..... right

The only person Portland needs to move is Martel Webster, and maybe Frye in return for a solid 3 like marvin williams (maybe even josh howard!), but theyd be just perfectly fine keeping them.

Ive been watching lots of portland's games this year, and once nash retires I will be a blazers fan.

I think the idea is that he would then resign with Dallas, isn't it? Stackhouse has done nothing this year, but for a minimum deal, he's worth a roll of the dice, he's killed the Suns in years past.

I'm pretty sure they changed that rule, so you can't re-sign with the team that trade you until the following year. It's the "Gary Payton rule" now, I think.

You cant sign with the team that traded you for like 3 months if youre bought out.

Blazers get the Shaft Royale in that deal and have no incentive to do it. Outlaw Jack and Frye for Harris? Just silly. Nets dont look to be making any huge advancements with the deal either.

.

Thats right.

Well Stack would give the Suns another 3 point shooter, which many (including myself) have said they seem to need this year. It doesn't really help their interior problem, except that it mans less minutes for Marion at the 3, so take that as you will.

The top end of their bench would be a bit redundant with him as well. You'd have either Diaw or Hill, Barbosa, and Stackhouse. All 2 or 3 type guys, though I'm sure D'Antoni could work it out.

Hate to brake the news but stackhouse is a 30% career 3pt shooter, about 4% lower than shawn marion. He's only a 41% FG shooter over the last 6 years as well. Shawn Marion is a sharpshooter by comparison.

But the Suns could trade Barbosa to whichever team they are playing in the playoffs and Stackhouse could torch him so it would all work out.

He always seems to torch the Suns from distance in the playoffs, regardless of his numbers. He's very streaky, when he gets hot he can fill it up pretty well. Looks like last year was his best from 3 (38%).

But like I said, I don't think he really fits on the Suns, he just make the bench redundant. I don't want him on the Suns as much as I just don't want him on a team we're facing either, if that makes sense.

I've always liked Stackhouse because he seems to get a lot of his points in the lane. He knows how to penetrate a defense. In some ways he reminds me of Josh Howard.

I think Jason still makes the Mavs better though. He will create alot more easy shots for the Mavs. One of the Mavs biggest weaknesses is that they are primarily a jump shooting team. When the shots are not falling, they have struggled to get points in the paint. That has killed them at times.

If all of the sudden the Mavs start getting many easy looks, layups and points in the paint, the Mavs IMO are much more dangerous then they are right now.

I'm not convinced Jason Kidd is the right fit for the Mavs. Kidd works best with an up and down, high flying team and that's just not who the Mavs are. They are a more deliberate half court oriented team and Kidd's lack of outside touch might hurt him in that kind of environment.

Defensively I think he's a great fit but I wouldn't quite crown the Mavs as champs even if they did manage to pull off a crazy 3 team trade to get him.

they already get a lot of easy shots and layups against us. i don't think j-kidd can get them much more. also, nash has a devil of a time guarding harris. he'd keep up better with an offensively challenged, slower j-kidd, though j-kidd would d him up better as well.

overall i just don't understand portland's angle with this deal. all that for devin harris? really?

Exactly, and doesn't Roy run the point for them? I don't get it.

I'm not saying the deal makes sense for Portland (because I don't think it does), but the Blazers may actually need to do some sort of trade to open up space on their roster for next year. From ESPN's TrueHoop:

Simple arithmetic dictates that the Blazers will be trading either now or this summer. They are so attached to the 15 players on their roster that they wouldn't cut anyone to make room for a much-needed big man after Greg Oden went down. So that's 15 players they like (although Raef LaFrentz could be bought out, Taurean Green's contract is not guaranteed next year, and James Jones has a player option). Add to that three first-round draft picks of recent years stashed overseas -- Rudy Fernandez, Joel Freeland, and Petteri Koponen. This summer the team has a first-round pick, and three high-quality second-round picks. That's 22 players in the mix. If Portland doesn't trade any of them away, they'll be forced to make painful cuts at some point, while letting the competition scoop them up for free. GM Kevin Pritchard is known to be crafty, and I don't think anyone expects him to let good players fall into the hands of other teams without compensation. The only remedy is to deal now or on draft day, and at the moment, thanks to a convincing winning jag, much of the roster is more valuable than ever.

So they have 15 players, Rudy Fernandez, and 5 draft picks (1 first-rounder, 3 second-rounders and the pick they buy from Phoenix every year).

well the fact that Blazers have been shown on NBA TV/Broadcast tv a lot has got something to do with it?

Well same here actually.. Im likin Roy... and come to think of it.. I do not hate anyone in the Blazers team.... I kinda like all of them.

Hornets too.

But still.. Suns.. then Blazers... then Hornets. CP3 and Roy 2 of my faves.
