Former Phoenix Suns guard Jay Humphries is joining Mike D'Antoni's staff as an assistant coach.

Originally selected by the Suns in the first round of the 1984 NBA draft, Humphries, 44, spent the past five seasons coaching in the Korean Professional Basketball League in South Korea, as head coach of the Inchon ET Land Black Slamer and as an associate head coach for the Wonju TG Xers. The Wonju club won two KBL titles during his three years with the team.

Humphries had an 11-year NBA career (1984-1995). He spent three-plus seasons in Phoenix, averaging 10.8 points and 6.3 assists in 294 games before being traded to Milwaukee in 1988 for Craig Hodges. He later played for Utah and Boston.

So Suns sign a former guard and Korean coach Jay Humphries as their assistant coach. And this guy is supposed to fill the priceless void left by big man coach Marc Iavaroni?

I guess Suns are truly serious about the whole super-small ball idea.

Honestly, for a second I thought super-small ball was gonna be a joke, but guess no further. Suns are truly sticking to small ball with only Amare and Marks as the bigs and no big man coach to help out.

Good luck, Phoenix.....

I've said it before and I'll say it again. It is pointless to fuss and complain Suns are too small because the team will not do anything about it.

Instead, they will do the complete opposite of what you want in a big team - and that means selling Kurt and Jones and allowing big man coach Iavaroni to step down.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Grant Hill and Alando Tucker man the power forward this season with shorty guard assistant coach Jay Humphries giving pointers.

Oh wow do I see the Spurs drooling on playing the Suns this season....LMAO!

Too bad they couldn't add him to the roster, but I guess he wasn't willing to play for the minimum.

Its mind boggling that we replace arguably the best big man coach in the nba with... Jay Humphries. What experience does he have?

What happens if Amare and Boris get injured? Does Steve Nash play C?
Our outlook is pretty bleak right now with only Amare and Marks as the big men. The biggest weakness (rebounding) is getting bigger.

Every move this year and has been completely lacking in logic. The chance to win a championship is so rare these days, and its a shame we aren't doing all we can to seize it that opportunity.

Valid points, but what can u do?

Like I said, once Kerr/D'Antoni/Sarver leave - Suns will win a title. Right now, their stubborn minds are preventing this.

Very right: Every move - from free agents to coaching staff to draft picks to trades have lacked all human logic.

But I am simply going to sit back and enjoy the ride -- the super-small Suns ride. Hope for the best and hope they speed thru all their opponents with no injuries...

Idea to Robert Sarver:

How bout try playing new assistant coach Jay Humphries at center, Amare at power forward, new signee Grant Hill at the small and the D'Antoni brothers in the backcourt.

Then go out and sell the remainder of your team along with the Steve Nash and The Gorilla for new furniture in your home.

That'll save u a ton of cash, you ass.
