That's not a comparable situation. Collins dropped because of that situation plus character issues. Teams wanted to draft him but his agent told him not to because he wanted to choose his team. Smith is a significant injury

It's been known that there is nerve damage involved, which creates enough doubt about his football career. Plus, as I said, if he's not drafted in the first round (which is the likely scenario), and doctors don't give him a vote of confidence for his future, his $5,000,000 non-taxable insurance policy would be more valuable than a 2nd round or later contract.

That's enough doubt to not only not draft him in the first round, but to take him completely off their draft board.

Actually Collins agent said if he wasn't drafted by the 3rd rd (IIRC) then he wouldn't sign and would go back into next years draft.
Felt really bad for the kid because it wasn't anything he did wrong.

Not sure a $5 mil insurance policy would end his motivation to play in the NFL. If he loves the game then he will try and come back.

Some of the doubt may be alleviated with the upcoming medical re-check and each team will turn to their own medical team before making a call.

Maybe, but at the end of the day, you gotta make smart financial decisions for your family.

Im not sure the details of his insurance policy, but I would have to imagine that if he plays in the league, the terms are revoked.

$5mil upfront without taxes is much more valuable than a four-year, $2mil 3rd round contract, partially guaranteed, and taxable.

This is why GMs can't sleep. He's too good to pass if your medical staff clears him to play for sure in 2017. The Cards won't get many shots at a player of this caliber if they keep winning and they will keep winning. He can set the tone for a defense for 4+ years. I'm big on taking the Super Bowl shot and going all in, but this player is the exception.
Don,'t miss that train, don't miss that Jaylon train! :)

Ifo Ekpre-Olomu had a policy that paid him if he wasn't taken in round one.

I knew it was too good to be true that his recheck would be different!

I wouldn't touch Smith until at least Rd 4

Valid points. I guess it would come down to his faith in the doctors and how the policy is written. If he doesn't earn $5 mil in the NFL does the policy make up the difference?

IF we still had our second rounder I would of been cool with it. Some

analysts have speculated the Redskins gm may take him in the first round.

I could see him going early in the second round to Dallas. If the two

quarterbacks go off the board at one and two and the Chargers take Tunsil

the Cowboys could possibly land Ramsey and Jaylon Smith.

That would be insane. Any speculation that Smith would rather cash in an insurance policy rather than play is bunc.

He'll be a top 40 and be up to speed in a year.
