I will be honest, I prefer Coach Whiz's laid back approach to the game, but Jim Schwartz is the man for the Lions. If they fire Jim Schwartz then the Lions are bringing their bad times on themselves.

Check out the few comments from Mr. Schwartz in this article: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/gameflash/2009/12/20/3529_recap.html

Some very direct comments right there. I have to admit I felt for the guy. His team was playing in a way that is unacceptable and he rightfully called them out on the situation.

It is not a bare cubbord in Detriot, he can turn things around.

That being said, it feels good to have beat them and get our title.

While passionate came across borderline bitchy to me.

As you said, I prefer Whiz's style. He acts like he's been there, done that before.

Thought he was an absolute jackass. Where were the flags for him cursing the referee? A couple of times I thought he was going to start crying.

For B Rob to get flagged twice for unsportsmanlike conduct, they should have given Schwartz at least one. I will say that we did get away with a false start on the Boldin TD, but they got away with a ton of holding calls.

He's got a pretty big job turning that mess around. I doubt he makes it. I prefer Whisenhunts demeanor by a long shot. But at least this guy cares. Its got to be hard to keep a straight face at times coaching that team.

I loved the split screen during a challenge where Whis was on the left side looking stoic as ever and Schwartz is on the right yelling "F me!"

Vince Lombardi was a screamer. Bill Walsh was less visibly intense.

Both were consistent winners.

Personality is only one aspect of coaching and the impacts of contrasting coaching styles can vary even greater when put within the contexts of two different teams, their rosters, their history, their stages of development, their cultures and the personalities of their key players.

Schwartz is a screamer. I have no problem with that - so long as he's bright and effective (and he seems to be all of that). The only potential problem when you're a screamer is when it begins to get old after a few years and the players tune it out. Whether or not this happens has a lot to do with the coach's credibility - if he can consistently "make it rain", his players will receive his word as "the word of God." But if he can't consistently deliver, he'll eventually just be considered "a loud guy."

I loved the "f*** me" on-screen lip-synch. And it was hilarious when he struggled with trying to pull out the red flag near the end of the game. (For a moment, I thought he was going to reach deep into his crotch and pull out a sock instead).

But all in all, the man's in charge of changing a culture that may be in worse shape than even what Wiz faced when he came here. Sometimes you need to utilize the verbal "two-by-four" to get your players' (and the fans') attention.

He is passionate, but he should direct his moaning to his own players. He seemed more concerned with what we were doing and trying to get calls from the refs...

He's a potty mouth.

:D

It was hilarious when he was threatening to throw the challenge flag because of the no call on the false start on Bridges. He knew it wasn't a reviewable play but he was so mad.

Jim Schwartz = overhyper toddler

I actually wanted us to go after him when McGinnis got the job. After yesterday, I'm perfectly fine that we didn't.

Well, as much as I like Coach Whizenhunt, I would like to see just a little more fire out of him than he gives. I am not saying that he shold chew butt in public or anything like that BUT, the truth is that he has NOT been able to bring mental discipline to this team except for one time-----and that was during the playoff run last year, when he called out his team on the return flight from New ENgland and told t hem to bring their BIG BOY pads to practice the next day. THAT WORKED, AND IT STAYED WITH THEM THROUGHOUT THE PLAYOFFS UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE AND 35 SECONDS OF THE SUPER BOWL. IT WAS GONE AGAIN IN THE VOLUNTARY DRILLS AND IN PRE-SEASON, AND CERTAINLY THROUGHOUT THIS SEASON. I know that it is not good to get too high or too low, but a little fire from the belly can't be all that bad, especially since it is the same people doing the same things that cost us critical plays at the most inoportune times during games. I would like to see him DEMAND just a little more, with a force backed up behind his demand. We will have better depth next year to allow him to demand improvement OR ELSE.

i thought it was funny that the other biggest whiner i have ever seen as a HC, Linehan, was on his staff. I did like the move to pull out the guys who were sucking at halftime. Most coaches don't do that but the sidleine antics are pretty stupid. I can't stand coaches, especially college b-ball coaches, that think they have to whine about every call.

I am extremely happy that Whis has a cool, calm demeanor, but the ONLY way that works is to flip out in very specific situations that really call for it. If he always simple tells a player to shake it off and calmly supports them, it'll soon get to the point where players care less about screwing up. Now, if he's cool and calm and supportive, and then B. Robinson gets his personal fouls while the team is screwing up and he suddenly rips him a new one and stares down the bench...yeah, maybe that'll get someone fired up.

I of course don't know if he does serious ass chewing behind closed doors, so my point may be moot. Even if he doesn't, well, I can't complain too much...we're NFC West champs again!

I was laughing. It was a perfect display of how different those two are.

I actually like Jim Schwartz. He's perfect for a team like the Lions.
