Well, I was angry beyond measure that Pryor spurned Penn State to move out of state and go to what he described as a bigger party school. Now, I'm so very happy that we didn't get saddled with this kid I could dance. What Tressell did was wrong, trying to cover up for his student athletes. Then again, maybe if the supposed leader of the team wasn't engaging in unethical activities, his teammates might not have either. Screw you, Pyror. Enjoy your suspension and have fun not getting drafted.

As much as I think Gene Smith needs to go, unless the NCAA hammers OSU with a huge sanction, he gets to stay. Wonder how big Tressel's golden parachute/severance package is worth and what/where his next stop is.

According to ESPN, Ohio St. isn't obligated to pay Tressel any severance of benefits if he resigns. Of course, that doesn't mean the two didn't strike some sort of deal to make Tressel go away quietly.

Tressel is the ultimate phony. He cultivates this image as a caring Mr. Nice Guy, but he gets caught lying to the NCAA at Youngstown St. and now Ohio St. Loser.

Bring back the death penalty!!!

If the NCAA really wanted to affect schools from cheating, start enforcing the rules & eliminating that school from participating in football for say 5years. If USC, OSU, Auburn, etc were hit in the wallet, I guarantee you schools would try to clean their acts up. This is like killing someone & spending 24 hrs in the city jail. This is Dave Bliss part 4.

As most of you know, I have never been a Tressel fan and would say he wasn't the squeaky clean guy that he tried to project. He basically sold the program out to get Pryor. When he benched the senior returning all big 10 QB, Todd Boeckman, for Pryor in game 3, that told me all I needed to know about the Tressel/Pryor arrangement. The last few years, the talent level has been dwindling and I'm glad to see him go. The sad thing is, if a couple of major trustees, mainly Les Wexner, didn't force the issue, Tressel would likely have not resigned and they would have let it play out. I don't think Gene Smith is going anywhere. That SI article was really nothing knew to people here in Columbus. I remember posting about Chris Vance, WR propsect, when he was draft elgible, that he spent more time getting high than practicing.

ESPN was saying that there are a lot of "insiders" who think TOSU is going to get hit harder than USC did when this all settles out. There's also been a lot of innuendo that this extends to the basketball program too, if true, then Gene Smith would be the next to go. You can't blame it all on the football coach and players if your other major sport is doing it too.

I realize TOSU is far from alone in this but when you consider how recently the prior(unintentional) issues happened there, to allow this stuff to go on again is just outrageous. They're going to get hit really hard and deservably so IMHO.

2004 wasn't so long ago, when Jim O'Brien ( BB coach ) was fired for NCAA violations, that the NCAA might consider that as part of the "lack of institutional control" factor. It seems as if the University dumps coaches and players move on, but the pattern doesn't go away. NCAA's problem with OSU might be that that schools non sports alumni reads like the who's who of industry, politics and judiciary ( shakers and movers ). Not saying the process is rigged.

The guy managed to smear not only his profession but his faith too.

The latter interpretation is suggested by a story that has long circulated among college coaches and was confirmed to SI by a former colleague of Tressel's from Earle Bruce's staff at Ohio State in the mid-1980s. One of Tressel's duties then was to organize and run the Buckeyes' summer camp. Most of the young players who attended it would never play college football, but a few were top prospects whom Ohio State was recruiting. At the end of camp, attendees bought tickets to a raffle with prizes such as cleats and a jersey. According to his fellow assistant, Tressel rigged the raffle so that the elite prospects won -- a potential violation of NCAA rules. Says the former colleague, who asked not to be identified because he still has ties to the Ohio State community, "In the morning he would read the Bible with another coach. Then, in the afternoon, he would go out and cheat kids who had probably saved up money from mowing lawns to buy those raffle tickets. That's Jim Tressel."

Yep from a personal character issue that was for me the worst part of the whole SI story.

And when you consider how long ago that was, at TOSU, if he was doing that then how can anybody be surprised at what went on now? He showed ihs real character a long time ago around the same circle of people who'd go on to hire him back to TOSU later.

As the saying goes character is doing the right thing when nobody is looking, and clearly then nobody was, or they were but they weren't going to report him, and Tressel did the wrong thing. I'm sure if asked about that he'll say he was actually helping a poor kid he'll have an excuse ready and it will sound great, but it won't be the truth.

Supposedly, this is a pic of the vehicle he is currently riding around in, registered to his Moms. He drove up in this to a team meeting where they were discussing Tressel's resignation. Dude is gone.

It's a 350 ZX. Don't know if he can afford that on a 5th round draft choice bonus.

Today or old footage? the claim is Pryor will never play for TOSU again and is about to find out what his options are. With the NFL lockout he can't apply for a supplemental draft, but the claim is TOSU has notified him already he is done there.

If so it wouldn't surprise me at all if he's driving up in a fancy car to get his stuff.

Russ.. The footage they showed was of last night at some kind of team meeting.. It is the car that Wally posted.. Pryor walks over to the car flashes the peace sign (or something) to the cameras then takes off in that car... He even did a traffic violation it seemed to me by not making a full stop or hitting his blinker for a right hand turn as he took off.. I know the traffic violation isnt a big deal in all this, I just noticed it is all.. But ya, he seemed to have a IDGAF attitude when they caught on camera getting into the car and driving away..

I think players can still apply.. This was a tweet from Schefter this morning.. Maybe they cant, but from the way this is worded it seems they can..

Adam Schefter
At this time, there have been no applicants for the NFL's supplemental draft. Thus, no date for one has been set.

Interesting. I assumed if they cancelled the rookie symposium thing they cancelled everything else but maybe not.

So I guess we can look for Pryor in a supp draft.

Wouldn't want him personally

Is anyone even surprised when the NCAA announces violations that a BCS school committed?

Violations no. But the stuff about the fixed raffle that really surprised me I had the same type of reaction AJ did, although mine had nothing to do with religion. I just had a tough time understanding how a guy got such a rep for being a great guy when he could do something that low?

Beanie Wells has been defending the vest today oh he touched so many lives and he made us better men, people have the wrong impression of him.

no we don't, character is what you do when nobody is watching, and when Tressel thought nobody was watching, he was rigging raffles to try and get a recruiting edge, in effect stealing money from the non elite prospects at his camp. That's pretty low IMHO.

Maybe Chris Wells would be better off laying low on this one.
