I have heard it and it is a special sound.

However, rattlesnakes have not rattled every single time I have seen one. At Lake Roosevelt in April i turn to my side and look and there is a rattlesnake about 2-3 yards from me. It cruises right through the middle of camp, right past several people and never made a sound.

And, it was a rattlesnake not a long nose snake. The rattle was very apparent.
Yup, they strike off of heat and if you freak them out and they are just getting conscious from controlling their body heat, they just strike at anything warm which gets close and never rattle

Where I grew up in NE PA (Scranton/Wilkes-Barre) area there is a small town called Noxen. They have an annual festival in June called the annual rattlesnake roundup. People go out and catch rattlesnakes competing for prizes like most snakes caught, biggest snake, heaviest snake, etc. Guaranteed someone gets bitten every year. They keep staff on hand to administer first aid to those who get bit. Never went to one because it didn't appeal to me however it's a very popular event.

Here is a link to the event: Noxen Rattlesnake

I went to a few cards-skins games. Got booed outta my section with my girlfriend who was new to sports. She was scared to death. I was there when the skins won the Super Bowl with rypien. I hated it.
I lived in MD from 82-94 & went to every Cards/Skins game. I think I saw the Cardinals win twice. Once was when Boomer threw for over 500 yards & the other was Buddy Ryan’s first year. The most painful loss was the 84 game when the officiating late in the game denied us the NFCE division title. Lomax kept us in many of those games, but once he retired, we got our butts handed to us almost every time. Had some heated arguments there over the years, but DC was pretty mellow compared to Philly. To this day, I still hate the Eagles. Almost as much as the Steelers.

I used to joke that I have Seasonal Affective Disorder for the summer, but then I became a mental health professional and had to stop :)
Lol that’s what I was referring to. Eight years between Boston and DC was too much gloom.

Been in AZ my whole life (over 60 years) and I’ve seen some on the move as well which were not rattling. However, if they are in the coil position, they will be rattling because they are telling you to get away. Plus in the could position, they can spring at you so 2-3 feet is way to close.
