Joe Smith? Happy or not?

I'm hoping the Suns can sign an experienced PF; the starting line-up is way to small! Smith would be great get, I'm not sure but isn't Gooden hurt??

Smith not seeking buyout might be just a bargaining move to get as much as possible from OKC. For both him and Gooden, Suns would make the most sense if they'd want to play for another contract. Now Gentry is reinstalling part of SSOL, TimThomas looms large on the horizon for them to want to sacrifice their playing time and future contract to play a minor role with Cavs or Celts.

Don't forget about what D'Antoni and SSOL did for the careers of Jalen Rose and Jumaine Jones.

Are you suggesting that these players were actually good when we had them? If I remember correctly, Jones was on his way to play in Israel before the Suns called.

To be serious these guys were so washed up noone else wanted them. the suns were apparently the last ones to know that rose couldnt defend at all with those knees.

I'm definitely not counting on Amare returning this season with the serious nature of his eye injury and possible follow-up surgery necessary. Even if he did come back it probably wouldn't be until later in the playoffs. The Suns cannot lose a big like Amare and pretend an NBADL player will fill his role.

IMO, if Kerr is not seriously going after another veteran big man it can only be because he has given-up on the season.

Or because they want to save money... They did the thing that most of us wanted (not trading) to keep this team together. They are spending more money than Sarver probably wanted. Anyone else is going to be even more money that they don't want to spend.

true there is a high chance that amare will not return this season.
If no veteran is signed then Kerr prb wants the young players to step up and gain experience.

I think Kerr is not looking good in the eyes of Sarver for not making a deadline trade and now sailing an albatross into the sunset. An outsider can excuse Kerr for trying to do what he thought best for the team, but when the money comes out of the owner's pocket... the owner is paying for good judgment.

I just cannot understand why Amare's eye was not under tougher scrutiny by medical staff.

Those kind of eye injuries are not always easy to detect, and can go from okay one day, to severe the next without any major trauma to the eye. It actually may be a good thing for him he was poked by Thornton, because it probably saved him from something even worse in the long run.

I did read one article that did say his eye was checked regularly.

A club source indicated that it is unlikely that Oklahoma City's Joe Smith will sign with the Suns, even if he is released by the Thunder.


The Suns must add a player by March 9.


There is a March 1 deadline for teams to request waivers on players and still have them eligible for the playoffs.



Once waived, teams can sign them at any time up until playoff rosters must be submitted.

Why would Joe Smith come to the Suns? They could only offer him the league minimum, and were not even a title contender. Hell, were not even in the playoffs right now.

With Ben Wallace getting hurt and if a buy-out happens, Smith will go back to Cleveland.

actually he never said any of those things. feel free to check me on that. he said a deal was being discussed involving amare for wally, JJ, and a pick with varejao included in one package. that was all backed up later on by cleveland beat-writers and even espn. He said there was a good chance of the shaq deal going down, but he never guaranteed it. I've been on that board for a while now. he's as legit of an insider as you'll find.
