Since you are the well respected capologist of ASFN, I was wondering if you could do some research and break down Boldins contract situation from the day he was drafted to present so we could see what he has averaged in salary.
Many of us has stated his 2.5m or whatever he currently is receiving is grossly under market value. Lost in all this is his signing bonus's , incentive bonus's ect. In essence he really isn't only making 2.5m this year.
I think we may be surprised to find that MR Q has been taken care of and treated rather fairly. Then again , maybe I'm wrong.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry...not Joe here...but Boldin's deal was 5 years @ $22.5M with $10M up front in guarantees....which translates to $4.5M per year...if I am indeed correct.

Slan -- Q's cap figure given signing bonus amortization is around $4.1mm

if you use cap figure as the comparison -- in 2007, he was the 21st highest paid WR.

Not a perfect comparison, because some guys have high cap figures due to a roster bonus vs a signing bonus ( which was all know the significance of, thanks to Al Johnson) -- but beats straight salary, or total cash paid in a given year.

Slan you are off base a ton. Of course he was taken care of. But the simple fact is based on production Q deserves to be paid more when you compare him to Fitz.

Also based on en fuegos's post of being teh 21 highest paid? Name me 21 better WR's than Q. Good luck!

its seems like WRs have attracted some whacky contracts;

The Vikings singlehandedly inflated the market with the deals they gave to Bobby Wade in 2007 and Bernard Berrian in 2008. Yes -- both average more than Q. Crazy.

The Raiders come next with Javon Walker --

and the Titans gave alot of money to David Givens. go figure.

I'm not trying to be off base. I really want to see af air comparison over the years. Example. If 3 years ago he was the 3rd highest paid receiver, was he the 3rd best receiver?
One other fact is Q and his agent must have been realy happy with that contract extension. So aren't they the ones to really blame here?
Fitz had an incentive laced contract which was going to pay him a ridiculous amount of money if those incentives were met, which they were. I would bet when the Cards inked him to that contarct they no way in hell believed he would catch 200 balls in the last 2 years and make the pro bowl twice especially when you look at the teas situation and the players around him at that time.
But it happened so you could say Fitz is overpaid , but he earned it.

And by the way. Boldin ranked 26th in the league in receiving yards. Surprised? So how "underpaid" is he?

Slan you are on base. Shane, you have to consider the fact that this is his 3rd year of his deal, and he complains that it has taken 2 years to get the Cards back to the table. That means he was complaining about his contract after just ONE YEAR! So Dockett does that and everyone laugs and calls him a joke. Q does that and some are taking his side, LOL!

He would have been a free agent last yer had he not taken that extension, too bad so sorry deal with it.

Q is also throwing the word liar all around the joint, while he in fact is the biggest liar of them all. He says the Cards lied to him about having a new deal, so what does he expect them to just give him a blank check, it's absurd. Yet, he said that he never asked to be traded before and now it comes out that they asked for a trade in the spring (lie). He said that he was going to not talk about his situation after he came out the first day in training camp (lie). He said he doesn't have a relationship with his coach and that he doesn't communicate with him (lie).

He is a slug of a human being for bringing Whiz into this. Knowing that it might acelerate his departure he throws an innocent party under the bus. So we see that his character is flawed and that he will step on people trying to help him just to get another buck. What a loser.

I blame more the rookie contracts which sets the market for all this given they produce. We have fitz who produced and is getting the benefits of that. Now every WR in the league thinks they deserve that money when they produce. Which is so but it should have never been that high to begin with.

Nope, I'll go you one further. Name me FIVE better WRs in the league. Of course, that's elementary, a simple task. THAT'S what he's quoted as wanting.

Owens, Moss, Edwards, Chad Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald. There are probably 5-6 more before you get to Q.

The FO should have realized at the start of last season that Fitz had a really good shot at reaching his incentives. They had to know that this would blow the cap space all to $#%@. They should have sat down with both Fitz and Q at that time and reworked their contracts. If we were paying Larry 8 million and Q 7 million I think everyone would be happy. Of course hind site is 20/20 but the organization should have seen this coming.

That's true there aren't 20 better but isn't that a very common situation in the NFL? Players aren't paid based on their ranking against their peers they're paid based on when they negotiated their contract.

It's like buying a laptop if you buy the best one and then leave it in a drawer for 3 months when you take it out guess what not only do you no longer have the best laptop, but it's lost some of its original value too.

In the NFL players become underpaid very quickly because of other players getting newer contracts. The only way around that is a contract that guarantees you'll be paid comparable to Fitz and the Cards aren't going to do that.

I have a question.

If the Cardinals decide to trade Q, does his remaining signing bonus then count against the cap this year? That would be about $6Million correct?

I thought so which is why he would NEVER get traded this year. We are about 3 mil under right? Let's take off a top 10 player on our team, pay more on the cap and not have the ability to take a player in return because of what it does to our cap. Even if it is split over 2 years we'd only save about 1 million (so we'd have 4 total) and still have to worry about any players received.

Another thing, despite having depth we have NOBODY I would feel comfortable as our #2 if Q left. Nobody. While we can get by without 2 star receivers we really have nothing to support Fitz if Q left. We lack a player ready to step up and take the burden off. Don't mistake depth for starting talent.

Only 3 Mill left. Minus his base salary and we would only take a 500K cap charge this year. Plenty of cap space for 500K cap hit.

Kudos for getting it.

Top 5 this years is only top 15 next year. You want to be paid top 5 every year then only sign one year deals.

Plus you cannot use that 21st ranking that was throw out and En Fuego did ellude to it in his post, but some of those players values are overinflated because a lot of them have roster bonuses that are only involved in this years totals. Next year their number will go down considerably without that roster bonus. You have to go by average value of the contract if you want a true test of where you rank.

Correct me if i'm wrong, cause I don't have the cap savvy that you do, but isn't 1 mil of that bonus on this years cap, making his cap hit 3.5 this year? If 3 million is accelerated, we'd actually save 500k? Not sure if my numbers are correct or not.
