RealGM Staff Report -

NBA referee Joey Crawford has been reinstated to the officiating staff, NBA Commissioner David Stern announced today. Crawford was suspended indefinitely on April 17, for improper conduct toward Tim Duncan during the San Antonio Spurs -Dallas Mavericks game on April 15.

"Based on my meeting with Joey Crawford, his commitment to an ongoing counseling program, and a favorable professional evaluation that was performed at my direction, I am satisfied that Joey understands the standards of game management and professionalism the NBA expects from him and that he will be able to conduct himself in accordance with those standards," said Stern.

I guess Joey promised not to offend Tim Duncan or the Spurs this time around.

Stern has already completed his cover-up, of course; there won't be any more reforms or firings unless the FBI step in again.

Based on my meeting with Joey Crawford, his commitment to an ongoing counseling program

Joey Crawford Is one of the best refs in the NBA, and he may be the best ref in the NBA, and he does not need a counseling program!

Duncan was also fined as stated in this article for foul language.

Duncan gets away with more than any player in the league and needed to be kicked out of that game, good for Crawford!

No, Duncan did not need to get kicked out of that game. Duncan does get away with a lot, but Crawford's suspension was warranted.

I watched that game and Duncan was laughing and taunting Crawford from the bench for giving him the first technical and Crawford knew it. He maybe should have let it go, but the stars do not get coddled by him like other refs.

When Crawford asked him if he wanted to fight him, everyone knew what he meant. He was asking him if he wanted to take him on and get throwed out, and Duncan just kept laughing at him, so out he went.

If an aging balding man asked me if I wanted to fight, I would laugh in his face too.

Except for the fact this is not the first time Crawford has let his temper get the best of him. I'm sure the Mavs might have something to gripe about Crawford's reinstatement, too.

I want to see the one of him in his car seat.

Stern comes off all puffed up after putting Joey " in his place ". Now all of the refs know you can't toss a " superstar ". He would have been better off watching a few other refs.

exactly. I'm tired of joey crawford. I was watching that mavs/spurs game and that was B.S. that duncan got kicked out. he was sitting on the bench laughing with his teammates, wasn't even looking at crawford. I hate the spurs and I can see how wrong that was. What would you guys think if that were amare(i'm not talking to you gaddabout). Imagine amare getting tossed from a rival game because he was laughing on the bench. I don't think you would be singing the same song then. heck i know you guys wouldn't be singing the same song just based on what happened last season in the playoffs.

yeah warriors beat dallas. dallas got outplayed and beat.....just as the suns did. but back to my point, if the shoe were on the other foot with crawford potentially throwing out amare for no reason, suns fans would not be happy about it. that's why i don't think it is fair to put any type of blame on duncan for this one. This was crawford's stupidity that got him in trouble. He should of stayed out of the game.

So now you have to look at someone, while you're making fun of him? Duncan didn't have the balls to look at Crawford, while he was talking about him? so that makes it OK?

how can it even be proven that duncan was laughing at crawford? exactly. crawford knows he was wrong and admitted such.

Last quote I heard from Crawford was that he felt he did the right thing and if the nba thinks its wrong then the nba should remove him.

I thought I heard him apologize in the offseason saying he was out of line. I really thought I heard that, but I could be wrong. I can't imagine stern taking him back with joey upholding that attitude.

Id take counseling before I apologize for something I did. Big difference imo.

Either way, Im sure he will be just fine this upcoming season.

I admit that is a difference. but an alcoholic doesn't agree to go to rehab without coming to terms that he did something wrong. he may not publicly apologize to duncan.....nor should he if duncan called him what it looked like he called him. but that doesn't change the fact that crawford has some issues controlling his temper. it shouldn't cause people to be ejected from critical games.
