Bless his heart - He was worth so much more than Deuce, Branch, Breaston ect....

I don't blame Joey - Whiz is to blame for him and Ross, Faneca, Mcfad,
Morey and Haggins were low impact wins,
wait and see for Gay and Eason.

Pittsburg west Sucks!

Porter made three Pro Bowls and won a Super Bowl while a member of the Steelers and was named to their all-time team. He added another Pro Bowl berth during his three years with the Dolphins before knee injuries sapped him of his skills over the last two years with Arizona. Porter was named to the NFL’s All-Decade team for the 2000s and finishes with 98 career sacks, good for 30th on the all-time list.

Too late. He already retired as a member of the Arizona Cardinals last season.

Bitterness aside, the dude was one of the most vicious and talented pass rushers in his day. He was a meaner, faster Suggs.

Aw well, wish him well in retirement.

Porter was a great player in his day. I don't think he came here and stopped trying; his body just couldn't do it anymore. I don't hold that against him.

+1

Beggers can't be choosers. The Cardinals have no one to blame but themselves for not having any pass rushers. At what point after Berry and Okeafor lined up for this team, did we not understand the situation at OLB was critical ?

Don't blame the Cardinals one bit for signing Porter, or even LaBoy for that matter.

Terrible decision by the Cards FO. Porter had nothing left in the tank and yet they kept throwing him out there.

I liked LaBoy. He was like Rudy. One of the most high effort guys ive seen. Later on he went to the 9ers and was tearing it up till I think he got hurt. Dude could be great if someone used him right, and put him in the right situation. Hes a less nautrally talented Matthews but makes up for it in sheer effort.

*per wikipedia - after signing with the Cards he had 4 sacks in his first 4 games prior to tearing his bicep. He was then released. Thats Kyle Vanden Bosch thinking right there. Have a stud whos a little injury prone so you cut him, and he goes on to have a great career elsewhere. If the Colts hadnt cut Bob Sanders after only playing like 4 games in 5 seasons, we could have at least given Laboy another year. Dumb move FO.

A little selective editing there to make an anti-FO point??

He wasnt released after 4 games he finished the season and was facing surgery and being out a whole year. Plus they needed to clear space for FA's- From PFW-

In a move to clear salary cap space, the Cardinals released LaBoy on Tuesday. The defensive end, who played four seasons for the Tennessee Titans, signed a five-year, $22 million contract, with about $7.5 million guaranteed, with Arizona before the 2008 season. He played in 13 games with 38 tackles, four sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in his lone season with the Cardinals.||||||| The Cardinals also released Edgerrin James and Rod Hood. The three players were to have made $10 million next season, but because of the $7.5 million signing bonus given to LaBoy a year ago, the cap savings will be several million dollars less than what the three would have earned. Arizona is expected to sign new deals with linebacker Karlos Dansby, safety Adrian Wilson and possibly unhappy receiver Anquan Boldin.

The Arizona Republic reports today that former Cards DE/OLB Travis LaBoy could miss the entire 09 season after having surgery. Here’s the report:
Former Cardinals defensive end/outside linebacker Travis LaBoy is scheduled to undergo surgery on an ankle later this month, casting doubt on his ability to play in 2009. LaBoy’s agents confirmed the plan for surgery, and the ankle injury appears to be the major reason the Cardinals released LaBoy two weeks ago. LaBoy played through a series of injuries last year, including a torn biceps muscle, which required surgery at the end of the season

The complete Wiki entry-
Arizona Cardinals

On March 3, 2008, the Arizona Cardinals signed LaBoy to a five-year $22 million contract with $7.5 million guaranteed. LaBoy got off to a hot start with four sacks in the first four games in 2008 but a biceps injury slowed him the rest of the season. Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt confirmed that LaBoy would need surgery to repair his torn biceps.[1] LaBoy was released on April 28, 2009.
San Francisco 49ers

After missing the entire 2009 season for serving a four game suspension for undisclosed reasons and having biceps and ankle surgeries, LaBoy signed with the San Francisco 49ers on April 20, 2010.[2] On December 18, LaBoy was placed on the injured reserve with a knee problem, ending his season. LaBoy finished his 2010 season with five sacks and 28 tackles.
San Diego Chargers

On July 29, 2011, the San Diego Chargers signed LaBoy to a 2 year contract. He was released by the Chargers on May 7, 2012.

1 sack in 14 games last year w/ SD and not on a roster now, a stud whos a little injury prone so you cut him, and he goes on to have a great career elsewhere.

Porter was brought in to teach the younger guys how to do it in this league. Him and Clark Haggan's were teaching just as much as they were playing. After the glimpse we saw last year from Acho and Schofield, I think he did his job pretty well. Anybody expecting big things from the guy on the field was pretty much setting themselves up for failure lol. I personally loved what Joey did for the Cardinals. The guy constantly gave it his all, but like stated above, he simply didn't have it anymore. His trash talk will be missed. Probably one of the best to every play the game in that department.

.

Playing injured isnt the same as playing. When he was truly healthy, 100%, he got 4 sacks in his 1st 4 games. Everything after that the dude was hobbled. Seems like this guy has played injured his entire career. He probably should take an entire year off and then try to make a comeback.
And saying "he played 14 games, 1 sack" doesnt mean he was in there for 30 snaps per game. That could mean he was on 1 kickoff that game. 1 snap, etc. IDC what anyone says, I like the guy.

And I dont have to do anything to make the FO look like crap, they do that well enough on their own.

Sorry I should have said he started 14 games and had 1 sack, maybe he only played on run downs?

Today comes a move that many expected after the San Diego Chargers used their first round draft pick on OLB Melvin Ingram, as the team released OLB Travis LaBoy.
LaBoy came from the San Francisco 49ers last year along with Takeo Spikes to help Greg Manusky implement his defense. While Spikes played well, Manusky's defense was bad enough to get him fired after one season and LaBoy's performance was poor enough to get him released after one year.
In his defense, Travis was signed on to split time with OLB Larry English and was forced into a starter's role after English and Shaun Phillips went down with injuries. LaBoy led the OLB group in snaps played last year, but will probably have a hard time finding a starting job elsewhere in the NFL.

In 14 games, all starts, LaBoy had 38 tackles, but just one sack while playing in 63 percent of the team's defensive snaps.

This team would not be where it is right now if Ray Horton was not around to instruct our young players. The Cards had just drafted Daryl Washington and OBrien a month earlier. But our other LBs were Gerald Hayes, Paris Lenon, and Clark Haggans so why would the Cards need to sign a veteran Linebacker to instruct the young guys when they already had 3? Doesn't add up. Wasn't Will Davis the primary backup OLB as Schofield was rehabbing his knee the first 7 weeks? Davis didn't even make the team in 2011 so obviously veteran instruction didn't help him any.

The Cards signed Porter because Berry retired and Okeafor was done and they had no one to play OLB across from Haggans and Porter was a former Steeler.

Or maybe they signed Porter to help all those old players with their retirement portfolios. :D

Has another Cardinals player been arrested since he was in Bakersfield in 2010?

I know we've been lucky in that department compared to other teams.

nope

Joey aint stupid, The Cards and Whiz are- dudes think he's a 24.5 Million mentor for his off field character, low performance and big mouth. wasn't like Joey hid anything - He was front and center.

The Cards will be salary cap broke before Joey.

When is he gonna be broke? 5 years?
