The John Brown who gave defensive backs fits in his first two seasons was back during OTAs on Tuesday. After a frustrating 2016 in which he dealt with health issues, Brown was zipping around the field and hauling in passes.

“A couple of those routes he ran, he did not run one route like that last year,” Arians said. “He couldn’t. And the smile on his face and him laughing – just knock on wood it stays that way.”

After several months in which Brown didn’t even have the energy to play with his daughter, he feels back to normal, which has him excited about the upcoming season.

“My confidence is through the roof,” Brown said. “I’m just ready to go out there, prove to everybody I’m back and help my team in any way I can.”

Such good news!

I agree, great news. Sometimes we forget what a big difference certain players make when healthy. Mathieu is another one.

Hope this isn't just talk and we actually see a difference in him on the field. Glad he is feeling better though.

In the video of JB he seems to have added some muscle this off season as well. CP said he looked more explosive in practice as well. I think we'll have the JB of old this season & be right back on track from the 2015 season.

That is GREAT news! Unless, we're inside that locker room I don't think we ever know what's really going with a player. It's easy to think...Hey, they're on the field so they must be 100% and that's not always the case.

Last May he felt like crap and had a crap season that we didn't know if he could ever recover from. Now we know he had a tumor or something removed from his spine and feels 100% again.

In context, it's great news that he feels good again as we could be getting that he was still hobbled by the same issues and that would have likely meant retirement

Two indicators give the Cardinals hope receiver John Brown has overcome the health maladies that caused a dive in his production last season:

  • In offseason practices, Brown is displaying the speed and explosiveness that made him such a threat in 2015.
  • Brown is smiling, something he didn’t do much in 2016.
“Smoke looks like John Brown,” coach Bruce Arians said after Tuesday’s practice, using Brown’s nickname. “A couple of those routes he ran, he did not run one route like that last year. Knock on wood, it stays that way.”

But Brown’s outlook for this season is much brighter. Part of the reason, he said, had to do with a cyst near his spine that doctors discovered and drained this offseason.

“Twenty-four hours after they drained the cyst I was feeling normal,” Brown said. “After a week or two, going back home and I was running around and able to do things with my daughter I couldn’t do. I just realized I was feeling real good.”
