Auburn basketball and star player Johni Broome had a major injury scare in the second half of Sunday's Elite Eight game against Michigan State.

Broome, the SEC Player of the Year, appeared to sustain an elbow and leg injury around the 10:47 mark of the second half at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The dual injuries appeared when he defended Spartan forward Frankie Fidler in the paint. Broome went down immediately and made what looked like an awkward landing.

The Tigers' medical staff members worked on Broome immediately, and he was brought back to the Auburn locker room for further testing. Broome appeared to be walking gingerly back to the locker room.

Here's the latest on Broome's injury:

What is Johni Broome's injury?

Broome appeared to have taken a beating vs Michigan State. He was shown in the second half being treated on his wrist, and when he returned to the game moments later, Broome took a hard fall in which he seemingly hyperextended his leg and injured his elbow.

X-rays on Broome came back negative and Broome returned to the game, albeit clearly with some pain. The extent of his injuries are unknown.

Broome returned to the game at 5:29 in the half despite a CBS broadcast report that he was doubtful about returning. He told Bruce Pearl he wasn't OK after the fall. CBS's Tracy Wolfson reported that Broome's X-rays were negative in the locker room.

Broome got a rebound and hit a 3-pointer upon returning to the game. He also gave a thumbs up to CBS broadcasters Grant Hill and Bill Rafferty when teammate Denver Jones was shooting free throws. However, as the game wore on Broome was shown favoring his left arm (to the point he wasn't using his right to rebound).
