Rookie Johnny Furphy helped the Indiana Pacers turn in a historic performance on Thursday, breaking a couple of franchise records in a dominating win over the Washington Wizards.
Tyrese Haliburton led the way with 29 points, Myles Turner scored 17 points and Pascal Siakam added 13 points in the 162-109 victory at Capital One Arena. In all, nine players finished in double figures as the Pacers set a single-game record for points and 3-pointers (27).
The Pacers surpassed their previous single-game scoring record of 157 and 23 3s with the performance. Furphy connected on the triple that set the new record midway through the fourth quarter to put the Pacers up by 45 points.
The Pacers improved to 43-30 with the win to maintain their position in fourth place in the Eastern Conference. With the Atlanta Hawks losing on Thursday, the Pacers' magic number to clinch an outright playoff berth is two with nine games left in the regular season.
Furphy has played sparingly with the Pacers this season, logging his 43rd appearance in the blowout win. He is averaging 1.6 points and 1.2 rebounds on 32.4% shooting from 3-point range in 6.6 minutes per game for coach Rick Carlisle.
The 35th pick has also spent time in the G League with the Indiana Mad Ants, averaging 14.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.2 steals and one block on 45.3% shooting from the field. He has scored in double figures seven times and registered three double-doubles.
