You said it the way I should have. Ya' know what I find educational/fun, back in the day Vince Lombardi had a TV show explaining his offense and defense..you can catch them on you tube. His going through the running game is fantastic. The league has tilted the table so much toward the passing game that it has become a self fulling prophecy that RB's are just there and serve little purpose.

The best rushing team in the NFL last season was the Chicago Bears. Their average time of possession per drive was 2:46.

The #2 rushing offense belonged to the Baltimore Ravens. They averaged 2:27 per drive.

The Philadelphia Eagles had the #5 rushing offense in the NFL last year. They averaged 2:48 per drive.

"We'll build around the run game" is absolute caveman thinking. Kansas City lead the league in passing yards. Their average drive? 2:53.

"It's not about yardage -- it's about rushing attempts!" you say? Well, Chicago had the second-most attempts in the NFL last year. The Atlanta Falcons had the most. Their average drive was 3:02. But they finished 7-10 in the sorriest division in the NFC and STILL gave up 22.7 ppg.

ATL - 10th 3rd down conversion rate (41.8%)
CLE - 19th 3rd down conversion rate (38.1%)
BAL - 11th 3rd down conversion rate (41.7%)
PHI - 4th 3rd down conversion rate (45.9%)
KC - 2nd 3rd down conversion rate (48.7%)

Running the ball is important, but it is more about dictating pace, personnel packages, and tempo of games, especially at the end.

That doesn't happen in the NFL, that style of football is completely dead. Good passing teams actually hold the ball longer than good rushing teams now.

That doesn't happen in the NFL, that style of football is completely dead. Good passing teams actually hold the ball longer than good rushing teams now.

In late game situations, the major reason why teams will still run is clock management. A 'failed' run play still takes time off of the clock or forces the other team to call a time out. Even in today's NFL, this won't be phased out.

Yeah we did that really well in 2021 during the 10-2 run. We'd usually be up 2 scores and we could just run Conner up the gut 3 times for a few first downs against a thoroughly demoralized opponent.
