The Cardinals' disappointing season isn't on Kingsbury. I'm honestly not sure who'd succeed in his position given the slew of issues inside that building.

Let's start at the top with owner Michael Bidwill and general manager Steve Keim. The complete absence of accountability - especially from Keim - is appalling. His lack of professionalism permeates the entire franchise.

"Keim's a fan. He's been able to keep that job because of his relationship with Bidwill, but he's not a football savant or football mind. He's not a leader," a long-time personnel staffer told me.

Kingsbury reports to Keim, who gave quarterback Kyler Murray a $240-million contract extension in July. Murray is enormously talented, but there are clearly growing pains that he - like many young quarterbacks - must overcome. Kingsbury is a good offensive mind stuck in a no-win situation for an owner and GM who haven't a clue how to properly run a professional organization.

I was listening to an NFL Network guy on the Bill Barnwell podcast this week and he said that Bidwill probably has enough money to fire both Kliff and Keim without much problem. He made a good point that firing Keim would basically cost the same as paying Jordan Phillips for a year.

I was listening to an NFL Network guy on the Bill Barnwell podcast this week and he said that Bidwill probably has enough money to fire both Kliff and Keim without much problem. He made a good point that firing Keim would basically cost the same as paying Jordan Phillips for a year.

That is fair about the positive spin on Kliff. It is the first time I have heard mainstream going after Keim and Bidwill like that.

One of the dumber things Keim does and he constantly pats himself on the back about it is the "team captain" thing when drafting players. Someone should remind him that on your average college roster that 98% of the players will not play football ever again after college and that almost inevitably the guys with NFL talent are almost always named captains.

Also Keim places no value on the captains of his own roster. There’s almost no surer sign that you’ll be gone from the Cards next year than being named a captain in this one.
