First, everytime I read one of these interviews or practice reports from you guys (Skkorp, Nidan, Brighteyes) I realize what a fantastic site this is and I marvel at the access we get...which very few other fan boards get. Thank you very much for providing us a place to talk, argue, cuss out and change opinions.

Second, that was a great article/interview and I am really excited for the offseason to continue on it's course and get to TC and games. I hope Josh keeps it real and I just KNOW he will be a QB we can be proud of.

Is it September yet?

It is always great to read articles from our players. This was first rate. Now he has to perform. I think he can and will.

Excellent article as usual, Jo.

But Green has put is eggs in the McCown basket now. That has got to be a lot of pressure on him - will be interesting to see how he steps up.

"So I get the play called, and knew what I wanted. … [as] I was taking the snap, I kind of envisioned I'm gonna get outside the pocket to the right, and it's gotta go over to the back of the end zone, and I saw where Nate was … just right before. It was kind of like déjà vu … I saw the defensive back's head turn … looking at Nate -- he wasn't worrying about me. … If I can throw it high and hard, Nate will just wait on it, and snatch it before the defensive back has a chance to react."

This is exactly what is meant by the phrase, "the game slows down"... And it sounds like it is starting to happen for Josh!

I think a huge plus is the confidence of QB Josh. He may have always talked that, but his winning that one game and being named starter by Coach Green have given him something to hang his hat on. He's excited, he's working out, he's studying film......as a starting NFL QB. Whatever happens with FA or the draft, I think it was a great move by Coach Green to motivate Josh.

Josh Interview

Jo, you really gave us an insight into the personna of Josh McCown. It's obvious he has the physical tools but the mental side will only come with experience. But it seems that his head is screwed on right. Also, glad to hear that he was helping out the Damian Anderson family during Damian's rehab. It might be an omen that at the Westminster Dog Show, this year, the dog winning best in show was a black Newfoundland, named Josh. So a natural nick-name, IMO, for Josh would be Big Dog or Lead Dog.

So many times....

players don't play up to their ability because of the system they are stuck in , be it coaching, philosophy, techniques, personel and teammates.
For instance. Darwin Walker. We cut this guy and he is now a starting defensive tackle for a pretty good Eagle team. Mario Fatefahi(spelling), who while watching a few Bronco games, had his name called quite a few times. And probably the ultimate example, Jake Plummer. Matters not if you supported Jake or not, he obviously was playing on a whole different level.
Josh McCown cut his teeth this year. He has shown that he has a strong arm, can run, is tough, and has a great attitude. The kid took some hits this year and got up every time. He threw some very nice passes and he threw a few real dumb ones too. So has McNabb, Culpepper , and Farve (remember the Panthers game?).
Dennis Green has named him our starting qb. That alone should excite you. Do you think DG would sabotage his first year here if he really didn't believe in Josh? I think not. We would be looking to sign a free agent to come in here and start, be it Brunnell or somebody else.
Josh McCown and every player on this team got a little better the day Dennis Green was named head coach. I happen think Josh McCown got a lot better!!!

I couldn't be more excited about our future than I am after reading Jo's piece on Josh. I hope he can stay healthy and have the winning ways start with the first game. I look foward to camp and seeing the installations that coach Green will implement, Jo thanks for the article it beats by far and away anything our print or voice media could ever do.

One thing stands out...

The thing I noticed reading this was where McCown finds he has a message from Coach Green.. his reaction? Drive to the facility.

I like that. To me, it shows initiative and desire.

First off, I wanna say this was one of the best reads I can remember in a LONG, LONG time... Thank you soo much!

Josh McCown, has all the tools. The size/speed/arm. I thought he did a pretty good job when he started those last games. I dont know if he is the guy we can count on to win football games or not. But this interview gave a good look at what goes on in his head. I am very suprised to see how mature and level headed he is for such a young guy(I'm 25 an I am as big a kid as you can get  )

Josh has the desire to become as good as he can. That is half the battle. With his athleticism & arm, combined with the will to win & improve he has a very good chance at becomeing the QB of the future for this franchise! Man I am pumped!

When he told his brother "not to worry when he gets draft, just be thankfull he gets drafted. That was the winning phrase for me. Keep workin hard Josh...

Before McCown's first start I did a little blah blah blah about:

"This may be the beginning of the Cardinals dynasty"

The 2004 off season may be the apex of the possibility of that actually coming true.

Or, a couple of wins to start of the 2004 season may prove the height of the McCown era.

To be sure, if, somehow, McCown took the Cardinals to the superbowl, I would be remind you guys everyday of that post I wrote before his first start.

:D
