Is there a source and who else is working out with Smith?

Last I heard he worked out for Washington against Iguodala and Childress.

The Suns don't seem to making much noise about who they are looking at. I get the feeling they are going to play this one very close to the vest.

it would be nice if he worked out with iguadala, then the suns could get a better idea on which of them they would prefer to have.

#35 is Iggy, what a beast

On the right is Josh Smith.

The Wizards page lists Iggy at 6'7 217lbs and Josh Smith at 6'9 221lbs.

I'd say for a 18 year old highschool guy Josh Smith looks ready for the NBA physically.

I think he meant #55. The guy in blue is either Childress or has the same barber. :)

I'm almost positive Josh Smith is The guy all the way to the right behind Josh Childress. He and Iguodala have NBA ready bodies.

Not true:

Republic: Prepster Smith leaps into Suns' draft view

Josh Smith is a viable possibility should the Suns hang on to their No. 7 pick in the NBA draft. But he is a perplexing talent.

He's only the second-best high school player from the Atlanta area, behind Dwight Howard. He is listed as the No. 3 U.S. high school prospect. But he's also considered the draft's most athletic player.

So where does that leave the Suns, for whom Smith, a 6-foot-8 swingman, is working out today?

The Suns, the NBA's youngest team this season, would have to be comfortable with not only going young again, but with a player whose consistent effort has been questioned.

"I admit I have some raw potential," Smith said.

" . . . I think I can be somewhat of an immediate contributor. I know I have a lot to learn, but I have some advantages because of my athleticism."

We're talking springs that put his elbows above the rim. He was attractive enough for adidas to sign him to a reported six-year, $12 million shoe deal. He has worked out for Charlotte, Washington and Atlanta, which have the three picks just ahead of Phoenix.

"Josh is an amazing athlete, but he is a lot more skilled than people give him credit for," Smith's agent, Brian Dyke, said.

"Everybody thinks he's raw, but he knows he's got a lot to learn."

Smith's notion is that his senior-year transfer from his Atlanta-area school to prep power Oak Hill Academy in Virginia made him as prepared as a player who spent a season in college.

He was away from home, played in Spain, played on back-to-back days and played more games on a 38-0 team than any college player did.

He is not blind to his deficiencies either. Knowing there are questions about his ball handling, shooting, ability to create shots and defense, Smith is spending his second summer working out with ex-NBA coach and player John Lucas in Houston.

There, he has gone head to head with Cuttino Mobley and Damon Stoudamire, among others.

"It helped reassure me a bit that I can play with them, but it also showed me I had a lot to learn and that people have a lot of tricks to get open and score," Smith said.

As for social acclimation, Smith said his father will live with him for his first two years in the NBA.

"They don't have to worry about me getting in trouble," Smith said.

I saw that along with Smith, the Suns worked out Anderson Varejao,
Sasha Vujacic and Telfair. If you add that to who they worked out
earlier, it seems they are looking for someone in the mid to late 1st round.
And with Smith falling somewhat, it is like they are looking to trade down.
Or, they are throwing a big smokescreen. Maybe they already know
who they are gonna pick, like it was with Amare, and they are
just playin around with other teams' minds.
Maybe they are gonna trade down, with someone taking a bad contract
or giving us a veteran. Who knows?
But.. so far they are not bringing in players that are expected to be
drafted at #7. Not sure what, but I think that tells us something... it don't
make sense unless there is something in the works.

I believe they are just covering all of their bases like they do every year. It makes sense. If they fall in love with somebody they might be interested in trying to acquire a lower draft pick. If they aren't enamored with anybody a May be more willing to give up the pick or room under the salary cap. They also have to be prepared just in case there is a great trade offer that leaves them with a lower draft pick.

It makes sense.

One thing to keep in mind, Brian and his crew went to Europe a couple of months ago and scouted Biedrins and Andi extensively. They may have done individual workouts back there.

I know what you're saying and I agree with checking different levels
of players. Last year they were 18th I believe, and there are so many
options to check out cause you don't know what will be available by
the time you pick. But at 7, there are only a few variations as to who
will be gone. You know Howard and Okafor will be gone, but the list is
short on who will be gone by 7. It just seems that it is an inordinate
number of later round guys we are bringing in. Really, except for maybe
Smith, he is the only one we would possibly draft at 7.
When we were at 9 in the Stoudamire draft, we mostly looked at guys
in that range.
I also agree with George that it may be because they already scouted
the Euros.
Usually, there is not much trading down in the NBA draft cause talent
drops off faster than say, the NFL draft, and there are more postions
to fill.
It just seems they are more vigoroulsy looking at later guys than usual.
If we see some early-type guys coming in, then I will feel they are
just checking all options, but it does make me think they are more
open to trading down than normal, which is all that I was saying.
Also, it is still early in the process, and there is time to bring in
early guys, as well.
